New here - Gonna be needing some help!

Post by Trippple »

Hi, I've just bought myself a 1975 S3 400 project. Candy Blue, pretty original and only my second triple since a KH250 about 30 years ago! It feels good to be sat on one again, even if it is a long way from firing up.

I'm hoping to tap in to all the knowledge on here to steer me in the right direction for parts and services while I go right through it and get it back on the road. I'm aiming for a fairly original bike that runs right, rather than a concours winner.

It's pretty much all there but having been sat about 20 years it doesn't run and there are a few parts missing, mainly small stuff like fasteners for covers, nuts, bolts and some engine mount bolts too but also no ignition/fuel tank key, clutch lever, some cables etc etc etc & in need of new brake hoses, tyres, blah, blah, you get the idea...

So, can I ask for some help to get me started please;

1. The best UK(?) suplliers of parts?

2. Who to go to for a motor rebuild, from the crank up? I'm in Amersham, Bucks so someone fairly local would be good. Can anyone comment on Raccoon who are not far away?

3. Where to get fork stanchions re-chromed?

Look forward to getting to a meet in the not too distant.

Cheers,
Martin

Thanks all of you. I'll message you about the engine Gary.

Dumb question maybe, but how do I get in touch with Malcom in Newcastle or Philpot in Luton?

Looking forward to the bullsh*t & lies about how to fix stuff... Thumbs Up

Oh yeah, is there a part no's resource or book I should get to identify all the small stuff?

The club used to sell the parts books for the 400. I've just looked in the store section of this website (link on home page) but they are not listed at the moment. Tangoman is in charge of merchandise, send him a PM and he may be able to supply you with one. From memoery they were £10 and well worth the money.

Excellent. Thanks. I'll follow up all the above.

Started the stripdown today & have the motor out. Still, taking it apart is the easy bit huh...

Sent Simon a (long) list today...

Another question - what tyres, both make & sizes, are recommended on a 400? Got nicely cracked 30 yr old Avons on it now

https://www.z-power.co.uk/merchantmanag ... php?pId=39

Try the above link for parts manual, can't find the 400 on there, but there is one for the 250 to give you some idea of what bits may be missing from your bike.

http://www.kawasakioriginalparts.com/cart.php

Try this one for the bits that are still available from Kawasaki, search by part number. For instance, the 2 outer airbox to carb rubbers are still available from Kawasaki brand new for the 400, and at a good price.
