Thanks. This is the bike that Keith Phillpot built, and it is a real credit to him. I've just got the easy job of looking after it.

Why don`t you think it`s not a UK bike Rob?

Hi Rob, Yes this bike is a beauty. As you say it's well known within the club as a Showstopper and winner of a few bike show trophy's. It was imported from Minnesota in 1997 and originally bought by Andy Vine with a load of NOS parts (the bike was in chopper form, sissy bars and all). Keith Phillpott (club treasurer) put it back together exactly as you see it now, including an original Owners Handbook. It was sold on to two more owners before I got it from a super guy in Yorkshire. Oh, and I payed the going rate for it (sold some other bikes to fund it). But I don't buy these bikes to make money, just to enjoy. One of my other bikes is a Candy Sky Blue H1F that I'm just about to fit expansion chamberers to (thanks Higgsy they look great). By the way this H1 goes like a missile in a straight line, but is a bit hairy to stop! Charlie

I've also just seen something I never noticed before. The right hand cylinder also has 498cc cast into it. Is this unique to the bridgeport cylinders?

It's a very early bike. First batch to USA in September 1968 for 1969 model year. Frame no is KAF 01078 Engine no is KAE 01092. Bridge Port cylinders, windowed carbs, low oil pump cover as ignition leads feed through middle barrel area before the mod to take them round the outside with the high oil pump cover. I think this was to prevent carbs flooding fuel onto ignition leads. RB would know better than me about this.

Couple of things Eric firstly no red reflector on rear guard UK bikes also had "longer" fender  High bars ...well people liked the US bars did'nt they. Strictly speaking UK bikes would not have Electronic iggy decal as they had points but this ain't been "proved" yet. Finally it has a low oil pump cover which I thought was for the euro points models but now I find out it was fitted to the real early US bikes as well :? As an aside I got my NOS one bought by me back in the late 70s low pump cover to see if it was the same as Charlies bike and yes it is ....apart from no tacho cable hole    Also making sense now are some of the early photos I've seen of white 69s with the HT cables coming out of small holes drilled in the top of the low cover.......pre high top I guess and done by owners hearing of the petrol leaking problem.......ya learn summit new every day fella :)
