Tears.. I now need a cup of tea. I am so pleased to read this positive news dear Sarah, Malc and Julie. Wow.. Still baby steps though.. You take it easy young Iain and you will be discharged as soon as you are fit enough. So pleased to hear you are texting.. Can't wait to tell David, who is currently snoring and Ania and gang. 18.46 yesterday

Hey spoke to nurse.
Iain’s had another good day. Observations have been good and he’s been mobilizing a bit.
He’s now got his phone charger and a few other bits to replace what has got lost at the hospital and we’ve been able to chat on and off . Xx

7.35AM today

Hi the nurse said Iain had ok night. His obs were all ok.
Iain has text and said he didn’t sleep great because They keep waking him up for observations!
Hopefully physio will review today. Xx

This is day 28 since Iain first took ill at home and day 18 in hospital.

Progress from the familys point of view, since Iain got out of ICU, is exceptional in comparison too what we have been told MIGHT happen.
I hope he can keep moving forward at the rate he is.
He has walked to the toilet with his Zimmer frame on wheels but then walked past his ward on the way back and had to be escorted back!
Keeping his food down but still talking nonsense at times
He asked Sarah did she remember when he went on his tour of the USA hospitals!!
All In all doing really good and did speak more sense than yesterday!
Tires easily and was going to bed after his last text at 7.45pm

He has lost just short of 3 stone in weight so yet another diet you do NOT want to try!

Sarah rang his boss at the post office this morning to tell him of Iains progress.
He announced it over the tannoy and all the staff gave a massive cheer!

Iain also once again texted a bit more sensible to Sarah this morning and is now off all medication. ( oxygen etc)

A fantastic result after such a long trauma in the hospital, small steps but all in the right direction, it must be such a relief, loved the bit about his work mates cheering. Wishing him and all his family well.

11.58 yesterday

Iain been reviewed by drs.
They are pleased.
His bloods are going in right direction.
ICU are happy with him and are going to review him for couple more days.
They’ve said he may start to suffer nightmares and regression.
His SATS are good still.
Iain said they were 97% post walk!
Physio have said he’s going well.
He’s managing small walk with no aids but is tired after it.
They’ve told him little and often and will evidently him. Potentially he could be home at the weekend! Xx

19.30 yesterday

So another good day.
Iain’s obs are all good.
Bloods are improved.
He’s tired from mobilizing but think that’s to be expected.
He’s on normal diet now.
He has been told to have more milk etc to help with muscle loss.
He’s been moved to another ward as ward he was on was being changed into HDU.
So hopefully he’s on recovery ward now!
The nurse has said he could be home in couple of days!
But shall see how physio and drs think xx

8.22 today

Hi Iain now on yet another new ward (2nd move today) where he’s not allowed to leave his bay due to infection control .
But he’s with others (4) who are at same stage on virus journey as him.
He had rubbish nights sleep again due to buzzers etc.
but obs are good still.
He’s mobilizing a lot more as well and says he feels more clearer and better still xx

Iain is still confused at times but the sleeping at different times (through out day/night) does not seem to help.
He said to Sarah this morning that the drs had not seen him for days!
We made a rule that the only family member who can text him is Sarah so he does not have to cope with lots of texts.
Big thanks to Gary Clark and and his wife Karen who rang and I spoke to on loud speaker yesterday.
Karen went through this just over a year ago and spent 20 days on a ventilator and also came so close to losing her life..
To hear of her experience, and its after effects first hand, was a true life experience of what we are currently going through and i have relayed it in detail to Sarah.
We are under no illusions, that while we now consider he is safe, there is still a long period ahead to full recovery.

More good news, feeling clearer sounds great too.

He's bound to tire easily and have confusing sleeping patterns, he's been effectively asleep for weeks..

But this is great progress, fingas crost for him to be home at the weekend then

What a journey you have all had. Like woolfie says... Iain has been asleep for two weeks. Lots of baby steps to full recovery now. Wouldn't it be great to see him home this Weekend! God Bless. Love, Anne and David. Xx
