OK so experiments over..
I used.. Comma Silicone RTV, (the stuff I use most places) my sample for this was the cured inside pushed out from the nozzle, perfect because the inner part was still liquid.
Just how long does this disastrous effect take Barrie? it's now been sat in neat petrol since last week, in fact the petrol has just about gone now, it had NO EFFECT AT ALL ON THE CURED SILICONE. the still liquid end stayed complete and just as it was.
I daresay that if it were left in a fuel flow uncured, it might wash away eventually (as anything liquid might), but sat in petrol it did NOTHING AT ALL. and now the petrol has all but gone, would you believe.. it has started to cure and harden. I doubt it will ever reach the strength of the pre cured Silicone but still NOTHING HAPPENED.
During the main test I noticed I had an old tube of Blue Hylomar, semi hardening gasket, lumps of this too were added to experiment and guess what.. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED TO THIS EITHER, IT IS STILL JUST THE SAME AS IT WAS PLACED INTO THE PETROL,
At the same time I also added some ordinary white Bathroom Sealer to the experiment, this too is now high and dry and just as sturdy and pliable as the day it was added into the Petrol.
NOTHING AT ALL HAS HAPPENED TO ANY OF THESE SILICONES SOAKED IN PETROL.
Over the weekend I replaced my oil pipe which needed the carbs removing, and being so close to the cause of your original insult, I also took a few minutes to remove the inlet rubbers too, oh dear...
All the RTV is exactly as I left it two years ago, even a tiny bead which had sqweezed into one inlet and so would have been in the fuel flow for those two years was still there, still pliable and still as rubbery as the day it was put there.
So Yeah, you wouldn't necessarily use Silicone to plug holes, especially in a fuel flow situation, but use as a gasket or gasket enhancer it's absolutely fine, I would add that letting it cure first is the only care possibly needed for it to be perfectly stable.
You must be feeling like a bit of a Prick by now Barrie so I'll leave you to your tears.
If ever I see you condemning Silicones upon threat of doom and destruction, I'll take the opposite side and also make reference to your abusive disposition concerning such things.. now go away.
