Malc, thank you for the update, it is clearly a very, very worrying time for you and indeed all of your family, it is good of you to share this personal information with us all.

The signs from Iain are positive but there is obviously some way to go and a few mountains to climb, having his age, health and love of his immediate family will help his recovery coupled with the exceptional care that he is receiving from the great NHS

Iain is stable and they have slightly reduced his anaesthetic that is keeping him under.
They said he is showing signs he is going in the right direction but rather than push to hard they have let him rest today.

That's all "good" news mate it all looks encouraging. Saw some pictures of groups of people just milling around in London Fields yesterday as if all was OK...….fucking unbelievable. I think the threat of no one going out for even exercise is FINALLY getting through to the few silly cxxts that are still meeting up. Best wishes Rob.

Sarah rang twice during the night and Iain is still stable.
Thats good news as he is not deteriorating more.
Both Julie and I are supporting Sarah by facetime and telephone and yes we really are missing seeing our grandson Callum.
I call round every day to see Sarah and bring some cakes/cookies done by Julie for her and Callum and obviously any other food items/etc she needs.
We stay apart a few metres at all times.
Sarah can view the forum as a guest and she said to thank you for all the nice comments.

That's positive news Malc, it may take a while yet before Iain is fully out of the woods, but time is a great healer and I know that we are all wishing him a full and speedy recovery

A real hard day for Sarah, no improvement and Iain is still classed as very poorly.
This was her text to our group this afternoon.
She had already spoke to Julie and been very upset.
Its so hard when we are quarter of a mile away but cannot be directly with her to support her.

Hi I’ve spoken to the Dr. They’ve said there is no change at the moment.
He’s very poorly but he hasn’t got worse and hasn’t got better.
He’s maintaining his own BP which is good.
His blood cultures grew nothing so he’s been taken off the antibiotics so it’s not bacterial and it’s solely the covid-19.
They are a bit concerned he’s not passing water enough and will keep a close eye on this, as she said they don’t work to overload him with fluid.
His kidneys are working ok though and she said to expect him to be on the vent for at least another 5-6 days.
She said this seems to be the pattern with the disease.
They will still wean him as they don’t want him to become dependent on the vent.
She said sometimes patients come off the vent and have to go back on it as well.
So we’ve got a wait to see which way he’s going to go but it’s good that he’s stable and no worse but unfortunately no better. Xx

Sarah spoke to the charge nurse to night who said he is still Very stable, so we will take the positives from that.

Malc, Thanks for the regular updates and please tell Sarah that our small community is thinking of her, you and all your family, this virus will attack anyone, anywhere, anytime, it's an unprecedented scenario, even our prime minister has been struck down with it and is in ICU

A small consolation, if there is one at this dire time, is it sounds like he's in the right place? With all the care and attention the NHS can give him.

Another hard day for Sarah yesterday.
Its very hard having to cope on her own with Callum and not seeing any other person in her home.
We can telephone and we can facetime but its not quite the same.
Latest update on Iain.
When she first rang yesterday afternoon Sarah spoke to a nurse who informed her he was on 50 to 60% oxygen.When she got off the phone she of course rang Julie and once again struggled to cope with the news and was so upset. We had thought he was on 35% oxygen where as he has been on 50/60% for three days but no one had told her.
After calming down and ringing back and speaking to the doctor she has become calmer
Below is the update Sarah gave to the whatsapp group we have.
For me things still look a bit more positive.

Hi, Sorry for the late update I’ve had a distraught hour.
Spoke to a nurse who explained that Iain’s oxygen levels have gone up to 50 to 60%.
The doctors were going to sedate him further as he was desaturating due to coughing and they were having to suction him a lot.
The doctors just rung back and explained that Iain‘s been on this higher Oxygen for a couple of days.
And this is expected in coronavirus patients.
She said they expect him to remain on this sort of level at the moment.
She said they are leaving him to sleep for at least another couple of days as they feel he needs to continue to rest.
She also said not to get ahead of ourselves but there are a few positive today.
His urine output has increased significantly which they are really pleased about.
His temperature has now gone! And his CRP [inflammation marker] has reduced however she said that this is happening in coronavirus patients and it does go up and down.
But Iain is showing no signs of any other infection in his body.
So she said he is stable still they are leaving him alone for the moment and there are a few positives but be prepared for ups and downs as they were finding that a lot of these patients were going up and down.
So let’s keep these prayers up. He can fight this xx

Another update, from midnight last night.
Morning I spoke to nurses overnight.
Apparently about midnight he was struggling a bit so they’ve increased his ventilation and added another drug to help settle him more.
They said that this does happen with patients that are ventilated.
Otherwise he remains the same xx
