Exhausted. Been hitting 14 - 16 hours a day this week in the searing heat. Can't sleep at night.
Varying between being optimistic and panicky.
This was the state of play yesterday afternoon. Frame fully welded, engine half built. Still got chambers to weld up, electrics to do, all controls, brakes to fit and service, seat to fit, mudguards to make/find/fit, tyres to fit, carbs to clean, fuel tap to service, and no doubt a bunch of other stuff.
Biggest worry is whether there will be sparks, this is an unknown original H1E ignition system.
One thing's clear - she ain't gonna be pretty!

Just nipped in for my tea. The engine is in! Back out for the evening shift in a minute - let's hope I've got some sparks!

When you say IN, is it in the house or ( hoping) in a rolling chassis? Good luck. Thumbs Up

Well, I hate to say it but Eric was right. So close but ultimately I've failed.
The ignition system didn't work and it used up too much valuable time going through it and rebuilding the stator. There were lots of issues to put right but it still didn't work. No worries, Farmer John kindly offered to bring a spare set of ignition boxes so I pressed on regardless. It was always going to be tight and I'd have been up till the wee small hours again but the final straw came when I tried to fit the chambers. Previously tacked up perfectly, they've distorted so much under welding that they're colliding with the rearsets and are 1 1/2" too high at the back. I don't have the time to cut them apart and reweld them when I've still got tyres to fit, chain to fit, mudguards, seat, carbs, controls, gear linkage and oil pump. I could have done it but rewelding the pipes is a step too far. Ah well. I'd already started to make compromises so it would be a shame to bodge it now. There's only so many 16 hour days a bloke can string together and keep sane.

It'll be a better bike for it. :( .... 8)

I didn't know how you were going to do it but I thought you would, I haven't done a 16 hr day for 3 yrs, didn't know they still existed!
Full Mark's for trying although it would be great to see it out and about at Squires in the near future if it's intended to be street legal ( or not)!

Ah well, never mind. As it happens the disappointment was short lived. Had an absolutely cracking weekend at FOTB. Simon Lister lent me his H2 for my track sessions and it was a blast, Simon Whitelock's KH250e is simply amazing and a credit to him, Rick gave me a big crate of used parts, the club provided a little hospitality to throw the H2 a little birthday party, the weather was fantastic, the race machinery was great to see, the company entertaining and all in all a fab weekend! :D :D :D

How the hell is it May next month?
S'pose I'd best drag the project out of the shed, try to remember where I left off, think about it for a couple of weeks, get distracted, leave it too late, nearly kill myself trying to finish it, give up and go in the car... Again.
