The old workshop has stopped behaving like a cold storage unit finally so I managed to split the crankcase ( with some trepidation if you've seen previous pics of my "barn/swamp find ).The crank area is a real mess, how on earth its accumulated so much crap is unreal, luckily the gearbox and clutch area are pristine thankfully. Why is it common to always butcher off the left barrel and leave it all exposed to the elements ? Also seems the l/hand exhaust goes missing along with the points/cdi unit plus the super rare side panel

DKs did have a crank in better nick for a reasonable £70 which needs a bearing at least, not too bad for them.Hope you like the gory pics

2 steps forward - 2 steps back ......
The J1T nearly lives!
Good progress on Saturday, until I put some oil in the gearbox - I swear it came out the bottom as fast as I put it in the top! So footrests off, kickstart off, carb off etc - turned out the hole centres in the pattern gasket were off and as a result the gasket moved and distorted. No excuses. Dumb of me not to notice. Any way I happened to have some more gaskets so cleaned it all up, (decided to use a bit of gasket goo thus time as well) and put it all back together. It's fine now.
Finally got round to painting the silencer black, having decided it's past re- chroming, but with the freshly re-chromed heat guard and reasonable chrome on the down (up?) pipe I think it looks pretty good with the chrome over gloss black.
So exhaust system on, half a gallon of 33:1 in the tank, and it's ready to start. Half an hour later and I'm still kicking the little B......tard! It has run for 2 or 3 seconds at a time but not responding to the throttle yet. I think it would go with a push but it's too late now, so next weekend will be D day.
Bit disappointing as no reason why it shouldn't fire up: good spark, timings spot on. New crank seals and rings, only one way to fit the disk valve. Fuel in the ultrasonic bath cleaned carb. New plug. If it had been multiculinder I think it would have caught. Bit odd though as normally my fresh engines fire up after a few kicks.

I went out for a ride on my red 500e after getting it uk registered and preparing it to be used as it hasn't been on the road for many years. It is a absolute joy to ride. What a machine.

It's been a busy weekend in and around the man cave, installed Dot5 brake fluid, one of my bikes had what appeared to be a water and sludge mix in the master cylinder, fitted a rack( for my sandwiches ), a gps mount, for finding my way out of the county, and with a lot of help from Haggis, got my big Zed purring, it's got to go though as it's not a triple
