This little gadget is supplied by Insurance companies here in the U.S. it plugs into your data port on your car, tells when the car is being used and more importantly HOW it is being used, transmits driving duration, location, acceleration and braking details back to the Insurance company and they then determine how good your driving is, what the risk to them is and so what your premium will be. . . . . . . . I WON'T be fitting One in MY car

Presume its the same as what you can use in the UK for young drivers after you have passed your test to keep your insurance premium down.
My son Iains first premium age 20 (without the gadget which he would not have ) was £3200!!!! ??
next year was £1150 when he had a years no claims.

would be funny to fit one on a 69 H1 with CDI, guess after 10' the poor thing will be definitively out of order

Those things are the future I'm afraid, I had the same experience as Malc and my son Michael's first premium would have been £3100 without the tracker but with it was £380
The problem with these things is that they so obviously make you drive more safely I can't think of a good argument as to why they shouldn't be fitted to all cars.

maybe one day all new cars will be fitted with it...then big brother can have your speeding ticket delivered with the minimum of fuss?

I never break the law so it would never really bother me.

We will be remembered as the golden generation of motorcyclists. The days when the most exciting machinery was introduced, when speed limits were only enforced if they could catch you, when there were no plate recognition cameras, speed cameras, big brother devices etc. Happy days soon to be gone forever I expect.

things are not that bad for a long while yet ,we still are the "golden age" my friend,....the bikes are still exciting to me,they are raw and not sanitised,we are keeping it alive and kicking.I still look at classic bikes and think....I want one!

I had to get such a device (which also has forward and rearward facing cameras) to get insurance for my cab. It also records sound, but luckily I can turn that off. The thing is fitted to the left of my head so whatever goes on the the back is also captured. Big Brother or what?

All our vans/lorries have trackers on them, we have had them over 12 months, you just get used to them being on

my insurance premium is sky high because of my job/where I live/miles I drive, 40 miles trip to work and back, 36 miles of that is motorway (the safest roads to be on)

they don't do trackers for us oldies, I wish they did, I'm sure my premiums would be slashed if they realised how much of my driving is done on motorways

I hardly think the my diesel Xsara would get into a lather about being fitted with one but if I ever got a rewarding car then there could be an issue.

I just got my daughter a bike instead of a car. No boxes on them yet.

On the road including buying the bike, insurance and CBT for £1300.

My son [19] has just passed his test, to save having another car, I said he could have use of one of two cars I have on a multi car policy as a named driver, the car is a Toyota sportefe,,a 1300 fuel injected wolf in sheep's clothing, he was added to the policy for £390 a year, an absolute bargain, and no conditions limiting his use

My skull's so thick they couldn't get a screw in.

Some finance companies insist on having these fitted if you are considered high risk, miss a payment and when they see the car is parked at your address they flick a switch and imobilize the car. If you still don't pay they come and take it using the spare key they demanded when you took out the agreement.
