Why would a 1969 - 1970 H1 use SAE 30 / 40 / 50 oil and yet the ATF is recommended for 1971
.

They probably ran out of fork seals. To sell...............................

Maybe auto fluid doesn't cavitate

Perhaps they had realised by 1971 just how shit the clutches are and started grabbing at straws for anything that could possibly improve their woeful grip?

Whoops Getting muddled with oil the usual transmission oil threads. Finding myself guilty of the charge I (silently) level at others for shooting from the hip without reading properly. Dunces corner for me for the next hour then

I put 'proper' modern fork oil in my FS1E when I rebuilt it and you feel every single bump - the appropriate forum then said use the cheepest engine oil you can find instead Wish fizzy's had drain screws in the fork legs....

Maybe something to do with the different forkleg internals?

What he says about internals, they would have different oil flow rates I would think ?
