S2A Engine / Frame Numbers.

Hi everyone
If an S2a's frame number is S2T 03317, within what range of engine numbers would it make a 'matching numbers' bike ; within 100, 500 etc? (I know the current one is definitely not 'matching') :smt102
Thanks
Clive.

Does this help?

http://kawtriple.com/mraxl/serialno.html and http://kawtriple.com/mraxl/files/serial2.xlsx

My understanding is that since the frame numbers started at 000001 and the engines at 28226 my simple maths reckons that your engine number should be near to 31543.

If I am wrong on this I am sure someone will say so - others may know the range taking into account the engines or frames that never made it out of the factory.

Thats not a bad guess at all Thumbs Up It would be close to S2E-32217, but 300 difference would be acceptable

I have to have seen the posting first Rog (i.e. just now)!! Been busy in the garage wrecking another triple! I don't have an S2A, so can't provide a precise guide, but my S2 frame and engine numbers are only 58 apart (in the 10000 zone) and 131 apart (in the 16000 zone). So taking a progression from these two would give you an engine number around 31726 for your S2A. Mind you, I also have what I thought was an original US market S2 (22000 zone), but the engine number on that is 310 lower than the frame number, so I'll assume it had it's engine swapped at some time!

I checked over 120 S2a combinations to give you the info, and yes, I spent nearly an hour with the calculator to come up with that number, the average space was 300 up to 542 numbers apart - which is an unusual spacing for such a narrow band of numbers.

Thanks again guys :D

The obvious next question has to be.....does anyone have any 'matching' numbers crankcases for sale  ?

Would I ever doubt you Rick? OK, yeah probably!!

There were some S2As brought into the UK back in the day and hence my sensible question! Ignoring Neil's usual "Japan" comment, my reasons for asking was that if it had been registered in the UK back in the day, there was a chance of getting the original engine number and, ahem, using it! However, this is not the case for this bike.

I dont think any S2A'S were registered new in the UK.
KAWASAKI UK lists them in there sales figures but I think they were all S2"s
RB will confirm
There was one alleged S2A registered in the UK but it originated from Cyprus I think
Dodgy story which RB will remember!!

Our good friend Doug Perkins had an S2a come in from Cyprus, he swapped the reg number off his old A7 and for years ran around with the bike with that plate on, and then sold it, years later I bought it and eventually sold it to a younger guy who ran into a wall with the DVLA . . . . . I then get a threatening letter of the guys solicitor accusing me of selling "a ringer" . . . to cut a long story short I bent a few rules and the bike ended up with a genuine U.K. registration  However, I still don't believe that there were ever any U.K. Imported S2a's in my 40 Years of dealing with triples I have never come across One :?
