You may have seen in the latest club magazine that we have a stand booked at the Classic Bike Show which forms part of this Classic Motorcycle Festival and runs for 2 of the 3 days. Time is now getting short to book your bike onto the stand, but currently no-one has contacted me, so it'll be just me and my trusty friend Keith unless something changes. It's a great weekend, with an opportunity to ride round the track. Details are available on line at http://www.donington-park.co.uk/events/ ... -festival/, but below is some information recently received form the organisers. If you want to bring your bike along, PM me or use any of the contact details for me either on this site or in the club magazine; you will get free entry to the whole event for yourself and one other; Gerald:

Special guests for the weekend include Freddie Spencer, Ron Haslam, Niall Mackenzie and Steve Parrish.

Steve Parrish will also host an entertainment evening, the press release from Donington is below:

Steve Parrish is the latest star name to confirm his appearance at the Classic Motorcycle Festival at Donington Park on 7-9 August, and will hold a special evening of entertainment on Saturday 8 August at the Donington Park Collection.

Parrish, a former motorcycle racer, competed in the 500cc World Championship and also raced in Britain, and was fifth in the 1977 World Championship as team mate to Barry Sheene. Known affectionately as ‘Stavros’, he is now renowned as one of the voices of motorcycling, having commentated on MotoGP and road racing around the world.

On his travels he has picked up many unforgettable and hilarious stories, which he has successfully taken on tour in theatres around the country in recent years. A special version of his tour show will take place at Donington Park, with the opening 45 minutes being extracts from the usual show, and then after an interval, Steve will then be joined on stage by several star guests who will also be at Donington during the weekend, including motorcycle legend Freddie Spencer. Further names are to be announced soon. Food and drink will also be provided, with a barbecue and a soft drink included in the entry price.

Steve will play a major role in the festival, and will provide commentary during the races on the circuit PA system and through the Donington Park smartphone app, as well as riding in the star parades.

Parrish commented: “I am really looking forward to the Classic Motorcycle Festival at Donington Park, especially as a few of my old sparring partners will be there on and off the track."

“The Saturday evening show at the Donington Collection will be a chance to reminisce the days when PC stood for pulling crumpet, and health and safety hadn’t reared its head. Those days will never happen in sport again!”

Tickets for an evening with Steve Parrish & Friends at the Senna/Fangio suite at the Donington Park Collection on the Saturday of the Classic Motorcycle Festival (8 August) are now on sale, priced at £20.

About the Classic Motorcycle Festival:

The Classic Motorcycle Festival is now firmly established as one of the biggest classic bike events in Europe, with 500 racing machines expected on track over the three day weekend. The racing is organised by the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club (CRMC) with the emphasis on thoroughbred Grand Prix machines. Other racing highlights include the UK round of the 2015 FIM Europe Vintage Championship, rounds of the ACU Classic 500cc and ACU Post Classic 350cc Championships.

The Wheatcroft Trophy race will see intense battles for pre-1986 machines while Grand Prix machinery from the 1950s and 60s will race in the Lansdowne Cup Series. Pre-1972 sidecars will play a starring role in the Camathias Cup, with track demonstrations of a wide range of classic machinery as well as plenty more additional static displays.

In addition to the racing, the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club will once again be holding a motorcycle show in the Exhibition Centre, with numerous club stands providing hundreds more bikes to savour. A big ride out of exhibitors' bikes on the circuit will also take place over the weekend, with even more action coming in the form of grass track racing from the Burton and Leicester Grass Track Association.

The passes have arrived so I'll be sending them out this week, but I could do with another couple of bikes to complete the display and the show is just over 3 weeks away.

Reply to this post, PM me or contact me via my details in the club magazine.

Thanks.

You're welcome Tony! I am very grateful to you and Kevin for bringing your bikes along and for helping with the stand and/or packing it away - much appreciated. Of course, I would have struggled without my trusty companion, Keith, who yet again put himself out and put up with my tantrums! Great show, great weather and a great weekend seeing all those howling classic racebikes. And a final thanks to those of you who came and said hello. Here are a few piccies to give a flavour.
