Hi, why won't my H2 start?

Hi, restored my H2 using all new electrics, cleaned and set the carbs, new plugs etc. When i try to start it fires for a second then dies. Kick it over again and nothing. Leave it for a few hours and the same happens. Petrol seems to be getting thru' ok and there is a spark at the plugs.
I tried 3 different sets of ignition boxes and a different set of carbs. Still the same ???? What am i missing ? Help!

Before you go dismantling stuff try a few bump starts, sometimes they just need to be shocked back into life

It sounds like there is oil in the bottom end, it gets kicked up into the top and and kills the sparks after just a few seconds. removing the little turtles under the front will let any oil below drain out.
Or, you could try the bump with the plugs out first, but this might just mess up your new rebuild if there is some oil down there..

Do you have a good earth between engine & frame?
Do a resistance check on the low speed charge coil
it should be 200 ohms,below 180,its had it.
( white & green wires in 3 pin connector)
unplug the black/white wire from small cdi box,
will it run now?

I'm with Wolfie, Over oiled - also, very often if you foul new NGK plugs they are shot, replace them even though they are already new

If engine is over oiled,try to start engine with a hot plug. NGK 6 or 7 to burn off oil.
Do not ride bike with hot plugs in it,just let engine get hot then put back correct plug.
Even better don`t use NGK plugs,i found them nothing but trouble so gave up using them
over a decade ago.

Carb inlet heat shields the wrong way up...
It's possible to install these upside down and if you do, it wont start, might get the occasional fart, but that's all. If you get to the stage of having your carbs off coz you still haven't got it going, stick your fingers down inside the inlet rubbers and if you can feel the gasket sitting proud, it wont go... guess how I know this

Most people use NGK, as long as you can be sure they're not Chinese moody versions...

Hi,
Was home late tonight but tried the low speed charge coil, it's 210 ohms, the earths are all OK and unplugged the B/W wire. Still the same.
Carb inlets are correct way round.
Compression is fine.
Looks like a bit of pushing up and down the road and a plug change at the weekend.

If you have taken the stator apart,have you set the timing the correct way?
(read the manual very carefully)
Recheck all the ignition wires for correct orientation.
Check the trigger coils resistance values.

Try a whiff of easy start that allways works for me, if ur sure all is set up correctly.

You might just want to try swapping your left and right plug leads over first.

Well i finally it running. Guy's were correct on the over oiling. Because this bike was an on/off long term resto i made sure the engine was well oiled as it was left in a damp garage for 2 years. I didn't realise it would cause such a major problem at start up. Cheers lads, i had threatened with a big stick like john cleese and his mini in faulty towers. Phil

Final word is 1100 Malc I'm afraid and your clip above is incorrect. The front end of Fawlty's has the smaller front grill of the mk1 and the 1300 motor was only introduced with the larger grilled mk11 versions starting in October 67 on an F plate (Fawlty's is an E plate). The Austin estate was a Countryman and Morris was a Traveller.
