KH250 with 400 engine - options?

Hello to everyone !
I have just bought a KH250 frame that has been fitted with KH400 engine and exhausts etc,
My dilemma is this - do I register it as a KH400 or leave it as a KH250 and maybe find a 250 motor to put in it?
Does it having a 400 motor hurt its potential resale value?
Apologies for asking so many questions - but I thought if anyone would know it would be the members on this board.
Thanks in advance. Vin

400 is a much nicer ride than 250, many will be envious of what you have there. if you're keen on having a 250 instead, why not swap it for a genuine or original one, you'll be beating people off with a stick.
If you're worried about the resale value, you're asking the wrong people, we have 'em cos we love 'em.

If you put a 250 engine in it the numbers won't 'match' so those people who are bothered by that kind of thing will be deterred anyway. As has been said above, a KH250 with the 400 engine is quite desirable as a rider's bike so selling won't be a problem. I ride a shed of a 250 with a 400 engine in and love it. If you register it as a 400 (401cc) you'll go into the next road tax bracket.

Thanks for the replies guys - I feel reassured by these comments.
I had a Kh250 back in 1978 and loved it - so this is a re-visit of my mis-spent youth!
I am looking forward to putting my new acquisition on the road and putting some miles on her.
I am acquiring a "spare" set of heads and barrels so that I can have a mild port and head job done to release some more ponies!

I know a man that has a set of tuned barrels. Farmer John. Pretty sure they are excess to his needs.

I would be very interested in them if they are available, Can you pm him to see if he is willing to part with them?
Do you know if they are a mild street port or race port?
Many thanks for your reply.

Just out of couriosity, as you have never ridden a 400 why do you think it needs tuning?
Personally I love my standard 400, get the bike built, ride it, then if your not happy get the squish done on the heads, buy some expansion chambers, bigger carbs

Hi Scouse, no I have not ridden a 400 yet. But I have read some interesting threads about moderately tuned 400's being a really nice blend of handling (relatively speaking) and performance.
I know that I will not get crotch rocket levels - but that's not what I am after!
I may keep the standard exhausts on for a while - to get funds together for some nice spannies - and to make step by step changes in performance rather than have to cope with everything all at once?

I have had a pm from Sam saying the barrels are for a 250 and are more like race rather than road - so not for me. But I appreciate the thought and messages.
