After 8 months of graft I finally got the H1 out on the sunny English roads for a real hard 1 hour long thrash today. To my utter relief it didn't break down, didn't leak oil and holy shit, it flies - and that howl! It really does sound like a scalded cat. It seems to be happiest between 4 & 6 thousand revs. After that everything becomes blurred (literally) as the engine screeches up to 10 thou and the front wheel goes loose and I find myself hanging on to the bars. No problem with mid range & top end power there then. It has a powerdynamo and iridium plugs fitted. Crank was done by Gary Clarke and the window carbs refurbished by Tangoman. Only glitch is the low end rev range power (or lack of it). It doesn't want to pull away cleanly and gives off a kind of a waah waah noise as if it's not getting enough fuel. I have to rev it high and slip the clutch to get away from a standstill. Feels a bit woolly and lacking power up till about 3 thou. After that it's a fire cracker.

That's exactly what mine was like test the compression as mine was about 135 psi so I modified the heads put a proper squish band in got compression to 155 psi makes a world of difference to bottom end .

That's interesting. Who modified the heads for you?

and did you have anything done to the porting or was it just the heads?
