I thought it was a bit dangerous asking for those sort of suggestions on here..
But actually if you put the short end in, it would only take a Tywrap to make a permanent fix..

I've missed a trick as I've just cut a capscrew to length and fitted with a locknut.

I had to do the same with a house key on my H2C and then couldn't get in the house as I had bent the key!
