Could someone please tell me how to apply for road tax for my h1f, as I have tried to do it online but comes back with a price for 6 months or 12 months. It has a full year's mot and insurance etc.

Go to the Post Office and do it the old way ,and also if your vehicle is old enough ,change it's tax class to Historic, all done over the counter.
Take your V5 with you as you are changing the Tax Classification

How old's the bike got to be for historic status?
My fizzy was registered 29/05/1976. Just want to save myself £17.00 a year

I did hear that if it becomes a historic vehicle, you can use a silver on black number plate as well...is that true?

That's true

I got my black aluminium pressed plate from Chestnut Registrations.
You will need to send proof of the age of your bike.

I spent an hour going through all the bumph online and found the latest version of registration plates (March 2017 version) said you could only use Black and silver prior to 1973 - Have I ever voiced my thought son the DVLA ? Indeed, "older style" is referring to letter sizes (modern lettering is narrower) on yellow plates, not black with silver/white letters. These "older style" plates would otherwise be sold as "for show use only" to get round it and leave the problem with the user.
