Hi, I know TT100's are marmite in terms of popularity, but anyone buying a new rear 4.25/85 x 18 will find it smaller in everyway to the 'old' version that they maybe replacing.

3 years ago TT100 production shifted from Japan to Indonesia which resulted in a smaller 4.25. Dunlop decided to not tell anyone as apparently the new dimensions fall within manufacturing specs or summat. When you put one next to and older version the difference is big, it looks more like the 4.10 front. It's 10mm narrower and lower in profile than the older version

So I'm having to get a different set - any recommendations on tyres with similar profiles to the original 3.50 and 4.00's ?

I guess a 'metric' rear equivalent would be a 120/80 or 120/90

The 120/80-18 is a low profile tyre,you will need to change sprocket sizes when
using this tyre. I use 15-42 teeth sprockets with this tyre on my H2.

BWhy would you have used a 4.25 size anyway. It's too big. 4.00 is correct size.cSo the 4.10 would have been closest.

And likewise, why bother using The metric sizes of Avon , when they make the correct 4.00 x 18 , and 3.25 x 19 sizes ??

Why do I want Avons

You're wrong about the sizes, the 4.25 isn't too big, it's the same (or was) as a 4.00. Look closely at the markings, everyday's a school day

I've recently put a set on my H1b as I had finally worn through the Dunlop K70's that were on the bike when I bought it 7 years ago. The tyre sizes are the old UK Imperial Sizes that are the equivalent to the metric ones fitted by Kawasaki back in the day.I'm really pleased with them, especially as they are rated for speeds up to 130 mph, unlike the the latest K70's that have a speed rating of only 112 mph!
Be careful with what you fit as Insurance companies look for any reason not to pay out, and if you are unfortunate to have an accident on a bike that has a higher top speed than the tyre rating you could be in deep shit!
I appreciate that most riders don't try to reach the bikes top speed but if you do and you tyre rating is too you are risking your life full stop.
I've noticed that a lot of the Chen Shin tyres have very low speed ratings. I found a set that looked spot on with the factory originals fitted to my 1967 Yamaha Yr1 350 but I didn't buy them as the speed rating was low at 93 mph(the bikes top speed tested by Cycle World was 101 mph). A lot of tyre suppliers don't bring the speed rating to your attention, and probably wont until some poor sod gets injured.

As Neil mentioned, the 4.25 is, I think too big, and it says "will replace", within reason a lot of tyres could be included in "will replace" category, you only have to wander down any line of yoofs Corsa's with stretched tyres to enjoy that spectacle

The reason for the post was a public service announcement for those of us who have relied on these tyres over the years, not for a debate on whether the size is correct or not

The suppliers have agreed to change my new pair (the Indonesian 4.10 x 19 is still the same dimensions as the old Japanese one, it's just the 4.25 that's changed) for 3.25 and 4.00 Roadriders

You lot know there are two imperial sizing types?
A 3.50 is the same as 4.10
A 4.00 is the same as 4.25 or 4.25/85 as was.
So a 4.00 is wider than a 4.10
It is confusing as hell and a nightmare to try and explain to the consumer.

Metric are the same, basically different manufacturers have their own interpretation of sizes! When I had a supermoto I could get a 130 rear tyre to fit from one manufacturer but another would be 10mm wider and foul the chain. Same size, same profile, different widths.
