Headlight brackets

Back in the late seventies when we were all turning our stock bikes into the cafe racers we preferred one of the first things got rid of were those horrible big, heavy chrome 'ears' that all Japanese bikes used on their forks to hold the headlight in place. It's ironic that these ears are now so rare for the H2c - I've seen them on eBay for £150 plus - but back then there were a lot chucked in workshop boxes with all the other unwanted stuff like indicators, back mudguards, and standard exhausts.

To us seventeen year olds big chrome brackets and pressed still components were everything we hated about Japanese showroom bikes with their rubber fork gators, safety stickers, big orange reflectors, round mirrors and chrome crash bars. Did works race bikes have these? Did Barry Sheene? No. So we took them all off.

I found a period pair of headlight brackets like the ones we all used to fit and just swapped them over. You don't know how much better I feel! Ha ha.

Before anyone asks the OE pair are not for sale - I'll have to keep them for if I ever need to return the bike back to standard. (Not that I ever would unless I had to sell it).

You best be getting rid of that grab rail pretty soon too, if you are chasing the proper '70's look :D

And then fit some Koni's or Hagons, or even red piggy back Marzochi's

Custom paint job is one that has been bothering me for some time! :) Ha ha. I never owned a bike that I didn't spray at some time or other - usually because of a crash or because the original paint was so poor condition or maybe just because it was a horrible colour. But this colour is great and the colour of many of the pictures and posters of H2s on my wall when I was a kid. I just love it - especially in the sun.

So I guess I will leave it unless something happens to force me to change it.

Those red Marzochi piggy back shocks were the ones to have in those days. I coveted them big time. Never seen a good set for sale recently. I bet they're not that good by modern standards. Probably rock hard with no damping!

Here's a 400 half way through respraying in about 1981.

Here's another one that was not standard colours.
