Hi chaps - I bought this a while ago on ebay for my S1A and, although it says S2A on it, it is clearly from something else.
What do you think its from?

Petrol Cap opens from rear, so it`s a 73 tank for locking cap.

If it doesn`t fit your S1A/S2A it`ll be because the frame ounting rubber " scoops " are in wrong place ? Yes ?

Looks to me like someone has tried to remove a dent with compressed air and spread the tank out

A similar effect can be achieved by leaving the tank full of water during a very heavy frost.

Don't ask how I know this

Thanks for the insight! I had been planning to do that as I was also told it was an affective way to remove dents!

I think you can reverse this by using a vacuum pump. Just go on Ebay and search for Swedish Penis enlarger

If you do give it a go, put two or three ratchet straps round the tank TIGHT. They should hold the shape without damaging the metal.

I think you'll find ice expands 10% when its stars to melt and won't press on a certain area!
Doing this is likely to bugger the tank

Well thats cleared up the mistrey of the "odd" shaped h1a tank I got off Neil the Don a while back........any way of getting it back to normal width ???? Would ratchet straps do it ??

I got one back to a reasonable state. It probably was not as far spread as the one in these pictures but in addition to ratchet straps I used a couple of sand bags, a big pole jack and a mini digger, but, anything solid and a couple of feet off the floor will do.

There were some small ripples left but it fitted the frame. Probably not recommended for concourse finish but OK on my "ratter"

I would struggle to explain what I did but basically put three ratchet straps round the tank with the ratchets underneath, then put the tank upside down on a sandbag. put another in the channel where the tap goes. Placed a solid piece of wood on that and used a gig pole jack to push the bottom of the tank down. (Up in tank terms) Wedged the jack under a handy digger that was lying around but like I say anything heavy enough will do.

Every time the jack went up a click I tightened the straps and after some awful creaking and complaining it went back into shape.

If you have a go be careful and don't shout at me if it don't work

Thanks for reply mate .......lookin around no mini diggers at le mo BUT building starts soon so may give it a go when it arrives. I get your drift that just pulling it together would just pull the top in so you need to keep it from pinching?? yeh hard to put into words so can see where you are getting at !!
