For those of you who don't know the DGR is an annual charity ride in aid of mens prostrate cancer and takes place in most major cities round the world.

The idea is basically ride classic, retro, bobber, cafe racer bikes and dress like a dapper gentleman. It's a weird combination but makes a good spectacle and the public love it. Think there were over 300 bikes in Bristol and the London event gets over 1000 now.

I got my sticking float problem back for the ride so was pissing petrol all over the rod at every traffic light.

Take a small screwdriver with you, one that you can palm...then rap it against the offending bowl....it often will stop that leaky, sticky float/valve.

Jeff. I might just try that. I am at a bit of a loss, the problem it's pretty intermittent. It takes me about an hour to take off the outside carb, get the centre one off, strip it, have a look and reassemble. Then everything works OK for a while, days, tens of miles - it's hard to tell. Then suddenly it's not idling well and feeling shit at low revs. I look down and see petrol pissing out the bottom of the bike and I'm a back to square one.

On this ride I tried 'whacking' the carb with a variety of tools including my shoe, a mobile phone and a bit of tree branch. But nothing was really right for the job!

Bike is still parked up outside waiting of me me to have a bit of spare time - but I'm not sure what to do.

Except strip all over and start again.

Do you have or can you get a spare float to try in the offending carb. If not try putting a float from one of the other carbs into the middle to see if the problem follows it. It will also make it easier to whack it a bit harder being on the outside. And measure the two floats front to back just to check that the offending one is not slightly longer than standard and is fouling on the carb body.

It sounds a bit too obvious and you have probably already done it, give it a shake to see if it is leaking as per. Tartan Triples post...mine was
