NOVA AGAIN!!!

Hi
I have a couple of bikes bought into the UK from the USA before the NOVA system started. I have the original US titles and C&E389 forms to show duty paid.
Using Tony's "How to apply for NOVA for an old import" guide from the June 2017 Triples magazine I rang the number to obtain the NOVA1 form. When I eventually got through the minefield of options & spoke to a person he told me I could not get a NOVA1 and to use a C&R109 downloaded from the internet. I downloaded it and it did not look like the correct form for a non VAT registered private individual to use. I could not find a way of simply downloading a NOVA1 so rang them again. After another long wait..... I spoke to another person who confirmed what the first had said, use the C&E109 and ignore any articles I had seen stating otherwise.
Seeing that many KTC members have done this process recently, is Tony's guide out of date already or are they misinforming me?
I have read the old posts and everyone seems to be getting bikes registered OK with Tony's guide, but they will not even send me the NOVA1 form.
Advice please from someone who has done this recently.
Thanks

My most recent experience was in October last year, if you bought the bike before the NOVA system (15 April 2013 is cut off date) and you have an invoice to prove it then you send the National Unit for Personal transport in Dover the following.

C & E 389
Purchase invoice which must carry the VIN and obviously a date, (a hand written one from a private seller was valid in my case)
Original Title or dating certificate
I usually also send a covering letter stating simply that I bought the bike pre NOVA and that I would like it to be recorded as Tax Paid (which is what the 389 says.

They then send you the NOVA number. If you bought it after 15th April 2013 then you fill in a NOVA1 form and send all of the rest of the above documents with it.

My source for this information was a letter from Mr A T Pitcher in the Dover Personal Transport unit

As far as I'm aware the 109 is used if you've been given tax relief on a vehicle (e.g. armed forces personnel based abroad) and then want to bring the vehicle permanently into the country, it has no relevance for what we are doing.

Hi Malcolm
Thanks for the reply, how can I get a Nova1 form as you can’t seem to get it online and they won’t send me one, they keep telling me to use the 109 form which does not seem the correct one.
I either don’t have or can’t find a receipt but I do have the US title and 389 to show duty paid.

If I remember correctly there was a number to call to order the form. It wasn't the Dover office it was just some administration department who couldn't care less why you want the form. I will check when I get on my laptop tomorrow.

You ring the VAT help line (0843 178 4298) and simply request a form and they send it out don't get into why you want it, alternatively it is available as a pdf download on loads of classic club sites here's one with the accompanying notes

One can always be "found" - just a little more imagination is required perhaps Clive.
