What should I pay for an H1d?

Hi, I've just joined and this is my first post so please be gentle with me.
I've got the opportunity to buy a 1972 H1d imported from America in 2009 and with matching numbers, standard pipes and airbox. I saw it briefly at the Ace Cafe 2 stroke day the other weekend and it sounded sweet when it started up and rode away, but apart from the above I don't have much more to go on.
So... What sort of price range is there on this model and is there anything in particular I should be aware of.
Not much for you to go on I know but any advice much appreciated.
Many thanks

Well that's my cover blown then.
Hi Malcolm, his name is Brian and he's from Watford. Bought the bike in 2010, it has a certificate from Rick Brett. I'm thinking of throwing caution to the wind and just buying it or is that a silly idea? The money is in a bank account earning zero % interest or I can buy a bike I've always wanted with the added benefit that it will only go up in value. Won't it?
What can possibly go wrong?

Hi toecutter,
was the reg TGF181L?
If it was it was my old one, imported it in 1999 along with an S2A TGF182L!
Sold it to a Brian from that area around 2009, saw him at Ace Cafe couple of years ago.
Got a nos tank on it

It is indeed TGF181L. I assume a 'nos' tank is non standard and think he mentioned something about that. Didn't get any photos unfortunately as he turned up with his helmet on and in a hurry to get away. So any views on what would be a sensible offer?

Hi toecutter, just to help you make an informed decesion,
When I bought the bike it was misfiring a new ignition box fixed that,
It was also blue so got it repainted, had the tank nicked so got a kh500 tank from rick brett
All I did to it other than put fuel and oil in it, was to give it a very good clean, and ride it.
I sold it needing the tank replacing or painting, I offered Brian my new old stock tank but
he didn’t want it. Came back a year later and bought it. When I saw it two years ago it looked the same
as when I sold it plus the new tank, he said all he does is mot it and ride it very occasionally,
can’t remember what mileage it has. Good luck

Thanks Ade. So would £5k be a fair price do you think?

Yes, I guess that’s a good price, I sold it with the new tank for £2800

Considering mine cost me £7800 in total cost. I would say that £5000 was a very good price. That would be full resto cost engine paint and chrome all done.
To give you some idea -
Powder coating £1000
Chrome plating £1500
Tins painted £450
Engine rebuild £1500
Polish and cleaning £1000
Please keep ijn mind these are rough prices. Doing all the building myself.

Thanks Ade and Nigel. Think I'll make him an offer and see what he says.

Yep £250 usually covers it!
