Buying from the USA/ Parcel Force

I Posted a message inadvertently on the Rallies page reference customs price hike. I have looked into the situation again and have found the following. Parcel Force now charge an additional £11.25 to £12.00 for any parcel worth £873 or less, pus the cheeky old handling fee of £8.00. So, as in my case, a parcel just over the import duty threshold of £15 panned out like this. Cost of item £23.00 (forget postage) tax £14.51, handling fee £8.00. So it cost me £22.51 for something worth £23.00. Moral of story, buyer beware!
Further more. Some of you may not realise that when you buy outside the EU. The import duty is calculated on the value of the item, fair enough. Plus the cost of postage , plus any insurance that you may have taken out. This is all added together and charged at the VAT rate of 20%. Then of course, if you are having to use Parcel Force, plus their new charges and handling fee! See how it adds up? One last depressing note. We are soon to leave the EU and so the above charges will apply to anything from Europe too. Good hunting and deep pockets bless you all.
