Just moved the insurance for my H1D 500, Yamaha RD350LC and Yamaha DT175MX to RH for £168 from Carole Nash who had quoted me £262 to renew. Quite a saving if you have the stamina to get through the long recorded message that RH play you at the start of a call.
And a word of caution to any of you that insure cars with Carole Nash - they changed their software last year and lost all the retained payment details as a result so couldn't carry out any automatic renewals. But they didn't make any effort to tell me this, other than sending a letter which I never received. No emails or phone calls. Consequently the insurance on two of my cars lapsed and my wife got stopped driving one of them and was rewarded with a £300 fine and 6 penalty points. And yes I do realise that I should have known when the renewals were due and have to take some of the blame. I have set reminders in my calendars now. They are due to change the software on their bike system this year too so be warned and check those renewal dates.

Watch out people when buying cheap insurance,It's cheap for a reason, you only get what you pay for.
Cheap insurance can give the most basic of cover,You must read the policy.
Not being covered to ride in the rush hour or even to a bike show/event, for example.

I checked those things with RH at renewal a couple of weeks ago, even with a "garaged overnight" policy, they do cover your bike being left overnight at a Rally providing you took reasonable steps to secure it.
And general riding (as in social, domestic and pleasure) to wherever and whenever, is fine but speedtesting and drag racing obviously isn't.. I would guess that if you were arsing up the A1 to see how fast it will go, they'll just shake their heads.
But as above you gets what you pays for, in RH case however, I got exactly the same Policy for almost half the price as it was from Footman.
You also only find out how good it is when things go wrong.

Hi Guys,
I just switched from Footman James to RH.
Premium down from £318 to £170.
Cover for 3 bikes fully comp £50 excess per bike.
H2A, H2B plus my GT750B.
Agreed values of £13k, £13k, £12k.
Legal cover, breakdown (inc Europe) and up to 5 additional named riders with full cover (as if!).
1500 miles per bike.
No additional charges for in-year changes.
Unbeatable premium, and more in tune with the very minimal risk involved....hang on...H2...?

I wouldn't have gone back to those cheeky gits after they would have quite gladly charged me the extra..
For £4 I say RH is the better deal.

You also need to bear in mind that RH don't generally charge for mid term changes. Carole Nash used to charge a £30 admin fee every time you made a change, on top of any adjustments.

Not sure if I've done something wrong in the information I submitted to RH, but . . . . . . .
Carole Nash sent me a reminder, £433 this year compared to £464 last year.
That's for two triples and two Honda VFR's.
RH wanted £607?

Another one to check is your cover on the Isle of Man.
I told them the bike was in my mums garage overnight and he had to check with a supervisor.
He confirmed my bike was covered overnight as long as the garage is locked.
It may be you have to put your bike back in the van everynight to be covered??
If your not in a van its worth ringing them to confirm you are covered if the bike is in the open?.
Theft in the Isle of Man does happen!
NEVER leave your bike unattened in Liverpool while getting the ferry as this is where most bikes are taken by professional gangs.
On another insurance note, a UK resident is covered for hospital treatment in the Isle of Man, however should you be involved in a serious incident and are airmended to liverpool you will pick up the cost of around £4000. You are no longer covered for this.
Take out a basic insurance policy or like me you may have cover with your bank.

Am currently swapping emails with RH ref the high cost? They have indicated it is due to mixing a modern bike with classic bikes?
So have asked them for a separate quote, will let you know how that goes.
On a separate note, I thought that all bike insurers had the same clause ref garaged? IE it must be garaged (or shed, etc) as you stated when buying the policy, when it is at that address. But if elsewhere you are still covered, rally, touring, visiting etc. IE if you say it is indoors then you couldn't just leave it out on the street???

They are mainly used for Classic bikes so your modern stuff is probably outside their usual policies so they'll have to go looking for quotes. It might be cheaper to have two separate policies with different companies..
I asked about the "garaged" policy when I renewed this year. I was also told that if it is at the home address it should be as stated, ie garaged or in a secure building. But Rallies and overnight venues, will be covered providing you took reasonable measures to secure the bike.
Of course, "reasonable measures" is open to some ambiguity, I often see bikes left unattended at rallies with the keys in, even overnight sometimes! I expect those won't be covered in the event that they go walkabout....?
