The 2020 Minus Two Stroke Rally, Feb 28/29th - 1st Mar

Yep, it's back by popular demand for 2020.
To be held at the Sloop, Temple Hirst, Selby YO8 8QN again, on the last weekend in Feb into Mar, so we get an extra day for free of course, it's a Leap Year!
One of the first Rallies of the year, it gets better every year, last year the long distance record went to Tracey who rode all the way from darkest Norfolk, Well done girl!
You can tent or van or RV or whatever, there's plenty of room in the pubs huge private campsite and it's Free to camp for the whole weekend, although there is a charge for power hookups.
So which would you rather be? Warm and toasty and stuck in the house or out there on a bike living life to the limit? We are still hoping for some snow, so far the closest we got was frosty seats in the morning.
Minor details like a Saturday ride out and/or curry night are still to be decided..
Please note that this is not a Triples Club event everyone is welcome, so anything goes but two strokers are best of course!

We might be having another Minus two stroke Micro Rally in three weeks Gaz. We were gonna meet up in the Sloop again but have decided to try for a true Minus two degrees.
The November Minus Two Stroke Micro Rally will probably be... In Reykjavik, see you there..?
So far there's Swivmeister, his dorter and meself (if er indoors doesn't veto my attendance)..

The meeting went well.. but not at the venue(s) expected, it was at the Kofinn, near Hallgrimskirkja instead... A rather seedy basement pub where we stuck to the floor near the bar, it reminded us very much of the old Nightclubs around Dewsbury.
But we did have a couple of minutes natter about the Minus two Stroke Rally while actually having to sample the temperature that gave the Rally it's name... And, the mornings were even minusser than that, The car said minus 7 one morning.
The location, times and dates of the Rally are as above, breakfasts will be available this year (we forgot to ask last year..
)
Saturday rideout will be to the National Railway Museum in York..
But enough of that.. What did become clear was that there is far too much 'Land of Fire and Ice' to see in just three days. What also became clear was that Phil Swiv wants to go back. by Bike! And Tent!! (and it is well possible).
The bugger.. He's got my adventure juices flowing again. I can well see another Wolfie magazine article later next year.

I confirmed the venue with Bob the Landlord earlier today, all the details are as above..
As usual we didn't have to fight off any other contenders for the weekend.. Only 11 weeks to go...

"Gentlemen, Start your engines".. Just over a week to go guys, time to get those covers off...
Meals are available fro Friday night, but we're sharing the venue with a 60th Birthday party so there will be no food available for Saturday night. That's OK cos we'll be visiting the Indian in Selby again.. Numbers for the indian will be needed on Friday night.
FYI, the A19 past the Power station is currently flooded... It's a long detour through Snaith to reach the Pub from the other side.
People Coming East on M62 or thereabouts can get off at JCT 33 (Ferrybridge services) go left up the old A1 (now A162) towards Squires
Just after the first mini roundabout, slip off to the left and at the top of this flyover, turn right at the mini roundabout towards Birkin (Sutton Lane), it's not very well signposted.
Follow Sutton Lane to the Church in Birkin , turn left (Main Street) then right again after about 30 yards (Haddlesey Road) and follow this road right to the A19, Go straight across. This is the road to the Pub.
People coming West on M62 should get off at JCT 36 (Goole) Follow signs for Rawcliffe and then Snaith. Turn Right at the Roundabout at East Cowick towards Snaith. Turn Right at the mini roundabout in Snaith to Carlton. Then turn left in Carlton towards Hirst Courtney (Hirst Road) This is the road to the Pub
People coming North on the M18 should get off at JCT 6 (Thorne), Follow signs for Selby, Turn Left at the roundabout at East Cowick towards Snaith (and Selby). Turn Right at the mini roundabout in Snaith to Carlton (and Selby). Then turn left in Carlton towards Hirst Courtney (Hirst Road) This is the road to the Pub.
Although the 'going' on the campsite may be soft to heavy.. I believe it is well above the waterline. I'll add any updates if necessary..
See you all there.

I called in to the Sloop today.. It's no longer "Well above the waterline" Bob, the landlord is getting worried, they only have about another foot of leeway.. The River has an extra wide step to fill before the top of the embankment and.. it is lapping at the very top..! I can see that to gain that extra foot will take 1ft x several Sq miles of water since there is water almost to the Power Station.
And the wind was ferocious stood on the top of the embankment, it almost had me over a couple of times.
The campsite itself has some small ponds appearing, probably because the site is now below the waterline, only dry because of the embankment. A lot of the houses further along the lane have it lapping at their patios, with the strong wind, the waves look almost like the sea.
Swiv is going over on Monday to make a last minute decision on whether we need to move to a different venue. Squires is possibly plan B venue, unfortunately it doesn't get my vote.
The last couple of Rallies I attended here were literally pushed out of the bar at 11:30 and at the last one, everyone simply partied in their campers etc instead...

WelI I actually called in and had a drink with Bob on Sunday, he was even worrieder.. the field had a lake in it.. He was not looking forward to High tide at tea time.
Swiv rang Bob today, his field is now an extension to the river.. The pub and car park are still dry though.. Swiv is going to ring again tomorrow but it's not looking good.
Meantime I found this on YouTube.. filmed today. it doesn't actually look as bad as Bob/Swiv had made out.. unless it kicked off after the vid..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy4KJlbVVYE
But it's looking like plan b, Rally at Squires might be on the cards.
Meantime I suggested to Swiv that he renamed the Rally, "The minus 2 Fathoms Rally".. He always wanted an extreme Rally, I think he;s got one this year but not quite what he was expecting/

Plan B it is!
Bob the Sloop is now wet.. no field left, village has been evacuated although Bob is still dry in the pub for now.. It will have to be higher than the Bar for him to leave.. I wish him all the best of luck. We have promised to visit him en masse in better weather.
So today, Snaith which is the next large town downstream has had it's banks burst.. their main road to Selby which was the diversion from the closed A19 is now closed. that means the next River crossing is at Drax (almost via Goole). that's one L of a detour.
So the 2020 Rally will be held.. Squires Biker Cafe at Sherburn in Elmet, people will be rocking up from Friday afternoon.
