Kawasaki Triples Club

First of all, In my local pub a guy has died from it. he was diabetic early 60"s.
My daughter Sarah has had it but seems to be recovering. Her husband Iain , a postman and a 36 year old pretty fit guy has also now got it. He deterioated yesterday and to cut along story short he is in hospital. They initially put him in the "virus"ward He was confirmed yesterday from tests he has Covid19. They were worried he was struggling, breathing etc, so have put him into an induced coma and he is on a ventilator. The consultant said the covid19 affects the lungs and there is no cure other than the body fighting it. By closing him down and putting him on a ventilator with drips to nourish him it may give a chance for the rest of the body to fight it. My daughter Sarah is heart broken, stuck at home with her almost two year old boy who as many of you know was born massivly premature at 26weeks. We are quarter of a mile away but cant even go to her due to she HAS to self isolate. My wife Julie has MS so low immunity so she has to stay away. We spoke to the hospital last night and they said he is very poorly but stable. They hope he might be able to fight back in the next 48 hours. if not..............................There are 20 others in the ICU unit all exactly the same.The consultant said the fitter you are the worse the Covid19 is. The body is shocked by it and goes into overdrive NOT knowing what to do. By closing him down they hope the body, now not having so much to do, can recalibrate and fight the virus. Two have managed to survive and get back to the normal ward.One was in ICU for 14 days. If you think this is not serious then read what is happening to my family. Many of you know me as good friends and many of you as close friends. We are just a normal family who thought it wont happen to us. Take care people and stay inside! AVOID contact with others as much as you can!

As you may know Malc, my late wife also had MS, so she could have been in the same position as Julie is now. Linda's grandchildren are less than 1 mile away and she cant get to see them. This last point pales compared to your situation. I will be thinking of you all and wish you well my friend.

Sorry to read this malc and wish him all the best for a speedy recovery it really doesn’t care who you are or how old you are ..

Fingers double crossed that Iain pulls through this awful virus Malc. Well done for putting your story on here as it must have been difficult. Too many people think this is just a thing that's going to blow away....I don't think so . The more stories like this get around the more people will take it seriously. The written word still has a massive impact in these modern times. Stay safe mate .

I am sorry to hear about Iain. I hope he makes a full recovery. It must be so difficult trying to support your family remotely.

Donna works for the NHS and is does worry me. They don't seem too hot on the PPE and if she gets it then we all get it.

Malc, That’s heartbreaking to read! Even from way down here in Aussie. I don’t know anyone who has had such a close experience with this bloody virus, I can’t imagine how you’re feeling. And, it’s made so much harder by being isolated from one’s usual support base.

Below is three texts from Sarah to our whats app family group, Ive altered some of wording to make it read better and added parts which I think help explain it better
Saturday afternoon

Hi just spoke to the nurse. Iain has had his oxygen reduced from 50% to 35% which is good. He’s not needing any support for his BP (blood pressure). They have reduced the anaesthesia slightly to make Iain cough and he’s managed this a few times but he got a bit tired so they’ve put him back in a deeper sleep but it showed he can still breath on his own. They said he was very stable and not as poorly as he was yesterday. They are going to move him to another ICU ward later. He will still be ventilated and in a coma and nursed by ICU nurses and Drs but he’s not so poorly that he needs to be in the covid19 critical area that he is now. They are putting the more stable patients on the ward so that’s all good. Xx

Saturday 5PM (ish)

Iain’s been moved to the North West Ventilation unit which is still in Wythenshaw hospital and still for ICU patients but it’s an off shoot because of the virus. They've created another area due to influx of the people they are getting but it's the same standard of care. They said he’s still the same so stable. xx

Saturday 9PM (ish)

One of my friends daughters works on respiratory and says the new ward ,the old H.I. (high dependency) unit is very small (16 beds) and opposite ICU. She said they may have thought they might be ready to wean him soon hence the step down so I shall keep praying he will be back with us soon xx

Sarah is able to ring at any time to get updates. depending on who you get these can sometimes be vague and unhelpful and at others times an absolute wealth of information and hope.
Of the 20/21 people in the critical ICU Iain was the "most well" there ( i cant think of any other way to put that!) The fact he is being shifted shows that.

Sarah had a long chat with an excellent consultant last night who said , he is still poorly, but is holding his own and showing good signs of recovery.He said there is a long road ahead and do not expect him to take just a few days. it is quite likely he will be on the ventilator for another two weeks then after that still more recovery time in a ward before recovery time at home.It will not all be plain sailing and he may take backward steps on the way from time to time.
One of the BIG plus"s is his blood pressure is normal as on the real bad cases the blood pressure is real high which is not good for hopes of recovery.
If any of you have high blood pressure you need to proper isolate.
The consultant asked what he did as a job and when Sarah said a postman the consultant thinks he probably got it there rather than from Sarah. He said the majority of people who have it are still at work mixing with others, or its those people who show a blatent disregard for social distancing.

5AM this morning Sarah rang the hospital and Iain is still stable

I really do hope that my story will all make you take extra care and self isolate as much as possible. If you want to copy this and show it to any friends then please do so.It may help to make people think twice, as be of no doubt there is a good chance in the not to distance future that you or your relatives will reach the hospital under similiar circumstances and due to the NHS being overwhelmed due to the lack of social distancing there wont be any spare ventilators or beds....................
