Missing Forum notifications and emails

Post by Wolfie »

This is an ongoing problem reported by many but also not a problem for many others.

People report not receiving any notification emails about PMs or Threads they have subscribed to. Over a long time every test I have done has worked for me here.

Recently by doing some more tests changing user email addresses I have come to the conclusion that there is no problem with the Forum email system.

It would seem that the Forum emails are being blocked elsewhere and may be treated as Spam by users email service providers and filtered out even before appearing in the users own spambox.

Lets see if we can spot a pattern, this will only work if users report who they use for emails.. If we can get a pattern we might be able to contact those providers or find which spam list they use that possibly contains our addresses. We do not appear on any of the major Spam Blacklists.

So... Hands up who does NOT receive notifications of PMs or subscribed threads and who is your email provider (last part of your email address), sorry there are too many to make it a poll.

Check your spam filter and also Aol Spam filtering, I'm beginning to think that Kawasakitriplesclub.(whatever) may be treated as Spam.

If that theory is correct, can you post the email address used by the site so if we add it to our contacts it should stop the filtering?

I've also asked the website hosts about the problem, they are going to look into it and maybe change some of the internet settings to help 'legitimise' the Domain name..

But Malc, unless I'm mistaken you said exactly the opposite further up this thread and I removed the post since it had nothing for me to look at.. 🙄

Well the service providers have updated some settings for us:-

Hi Graham,

OK, thanks for coming back to me.

I have added SPF and DMARC records to the domain DNS, this should legitimise emails being sent by the website, it basically lists the IP of the website and says that if you get an email from this server IP from Kawasaki it is legit and to not place it as SPAM.

Let's see how we get on from there.

It's hit and miss for notifications for me, I'm using Outlook.

Malc's " and so it begins " always comes through to my inbox every time but there are others that get directed straight to junk, strange.

Add the Club domain name into your whitelist. They should all avoid the Spambox then.

It's is the list in your email Providers setup, or even in your own email client that tells the Email system that Emails from this sender are all OK.

Google should be able to point you in the right direction to find it.

Click on "Notifications" at the top of the page and then on "Settings" in the popup box and tick the e-mail boxes down the righthand side.
