Hi all,
hope someone out there might be able to give me some info.
I sent 2 first reg applications 2 weeks ago for my H2s, one rebuilt and running, second rolling frame.
I've been asked they both need to be examined by a Davis Motor Engineering on behalf of Applus Car Testing Service Ltd.
Both have to be in a road worthy condition.
Any one had to do this? they make no mention of cost and offer a fully mobile service can come to your home.
It all seems straight forward, but DLVA being DVLA....

Perhaps they are treating them as new vehicles?
first reg form should be v55/5 for used vehicles, not v55/4 for new vehicles

It's not uncommon for them to need to be examined. Probably just luck of the draw.

Out of interest, did you send photos of the bike with your application?

The DVLA do pick used bikes being registered at random to inspect.
I don't recall there ever being charge for it.
If you MOT your bike off the frame number and send the Mot with your application you won't get picked for inspection.

I had both the H2s inspected today, the engineer said its just to see
they are complete and not made up of a load of odds and ends.
He also said the one without the engine in, although it was sitting on the floor next to it,
could be a problem if dvla get arsey about it. Have to wait and see!

No I didn't send any photos with the application.
Engineer took enough though!!

There are two schools of thought, some send the minimum amount of information required.

I prefer to send a letter with the application, detailing the history and loads of photos of the assembled bike, thinking it may encourage them not to ask for an inspection.

Davis Engineering inspected an F9 I was registering a few months back. The guy was very thorough checking it was not a built up from parts special. He took loads of photos and said the DVLA are insisting on it. I was told when I booked the inspection that the bike had to be totally complete to pass the inspection. Once he had been I received the registration very quickly.

I agree that it is a complete lottery. However the only inspections I have had was where there was no original title (usually US ) and i didn't get an MOT. I reckon one or both of these gives creedance to DVLA that the bike actually exists and is complete. The inspections are free and relatively easy to organise but it does delay things a bit. My preference is an MOT if for no other reason than it includes a brake test AND it's another pair of eyes to spot faults I may have overlooked.

Well, today I got both my applications approved
Problem is I now have an L reg 750 Warrior in place of my H2B!!
The paperwork they sent confirming new reg has no email or phone number to reply to, all I can do is to write a letter.
You would have thought there would be some sort of, can you confirm all details are correct, section.
Last time I registered two imports, 25 years ago, I did it at a local office and managed to get consecutive reg numbers.

Well,
I sent a letter stating DVLA mistakes expecting some sort of response. Left it for a month or so, due to work and loss of interest!
Decided to find a phone number and contact them, got straight through just following the prompts.
Nice lady said, yes an enquiry had been opened, they just needed me to send the incorrect log book back highlighting the mistakes.
That was at the end of March and a few days later I got a new log book, new reg number and a Kawasaki as a make!!
In summarizing, we all make mistakes, but it was hard to find a route in DVLA to sort this out...

If they make a mistake on the new log book just send it back highlighting the mistake on the Logbook and with a covering letter explaining what it is and they usually just alter it.
Both me and another club member have had that in the last 18 months or so.
They put my RD350 as a scooter
They altered it no problem

They are also getting far more keener on inspecting bikes too!

Hi.
Restored my S2 IMPORTED bike to original spec with a change of colour.
Had dual V5's delivered in quick succession after applying to register it. One stated it was Leyland the other a Kawasaki. Totally different V5 doc serials. They make all sorts of mistakes. Couldn't insure/MOT it till I returned the incorrect one with a covering letter. I sent every bit of info I had, pictures of it unrestored but complete, NOVA, dating letter etc but your never guaranteed of the out come. Had issues with a GPZ also. You wont get a personal reply any admission of guilt or appology for any incovenience caused, just the official doc as requested. Do the best you can and wait. They didnt ask to see it at any point, I was lucky.

Got a letter of apology, couple of weeks after correct log book.
