Not that I have it running yet , weather and work holding me back. But I wondered what the wisdom about 2T oil was? I have some Castrol and Silkolene but what about the modern equivalent of Castrol R, IE Castrol R40? I've always loved the smell since my first meeting at East Fortune! Or is it a bad move unless as i was advised to do with my 4 stroke Ducatis one strips the engine and completely cleans all mineral oil out lest there should be emulsion formed? Mr Millyard uses Silkolene..

Can tell you've not been here long John...
This is one of those questions that everyone has their own preference.. Stand by for the ensuing discussion..
My own choice is Morrisons finest Carlube, cheep and cheerful, others will pay top dollar for hi tech stuff.
I am surprised that the esteemed Mr Millyard uses Silkolene, people on here have had gumming up problems with that and Castrol R is renowned as a gummer upper of engines, realistically it's only worthwhile for engines that will be stripped very regularly, ie race bikes.

Hi.
I agree, avoid Castrol R unless your addicted to the smell. I use Castrol 2T semi or fully synthetic depending on cost and availability. I used to put anything, ie lawn mower stuff in them back in the day but wouldn't dream of it now.

Thanks for the replies. Think I'll stick with standard Castrol then. Anyone want a litre of Silkolene then? Can't remember what I used in the MZ but then that was in 78 and I only had it for 2 weeeks to run it in for our 2 up camping holiday in Brittany. Plastic bags inside boots on the way back upp the road to Edinburgh type weather. What a machine!

Have I misunderstood or have you been using car lube (I presume you mean car engine oil?) instead of two stroke oil?
Surely that’s going to cause problems?

Well there's Silkolene and Silkolene. They do a variety of 2 stroke oils.
I'm very much in the Carlube camp. It's cheap and it does the job.
