h2 gear lever spring?

took my h2 for its mot on the 2nd june ,just mins away from the shop i had trouble changing down..mechanic who passed the bike an hour later said my spring which assists the down or up change has worn or broke ..gear box is normal ..i have not looked yet is this just a straight clutch casing of? ..maybe i should check the spline first in case the guys wrong..peter.

They usually break but if the gearchange shaft has any play it might simply have 'missed' the locating peg try pulling the shaft outwards (I had to put washers behind mine).
If it is broken you might have a piece of spring potentially waiting to launch itself into the works, I would get inside there fairly soon if you can.
It is a cover off and clutch basket, but that's as far as you need to go.

Peter, did you leave out the 'hat' shaped pressed metal spacer that sits on the gearchange shaft to stop it sliding toward the outer clutch cover, when you replaced that cover (are we talking about your H2C?). Someone else who should know better did just this recently and suffered gearchange problems.

thanks wolfie thanks hal..i will check the shaft first before i take the casing of and remove clutch, it is my blue one hal, the h2c is done now with its replacement $100 -£65 casing from toms triples in the u.s. this happened taking my blue one in for the mot and right out of the "blue"..so its prob another casing of and i was going on my hols the same evening so i just rode it back to the garage..if you want the old purple casing hal il drop it in..cheers peter.
