Isle of Man Novice.

Hello All,
We are going to the Isle of Man in August, for the very first time so looking for a few pointers please.

We are staying in Douglas on the sea front, Sunday 24th to Saturday 30th. Anyone nearby for a meet up?

Who else will be on the island then?

Not trying to do too much, but would a good look around for if we visit again, so any recommendations for places/locations to visit? It looks like we have 3 days racing and 2 days for ride-outs in the 5 clear days we are there.

And where do you get all the race information/schedules/cancellation info from please? Assume there is a live web site?

Cheers! πŸ‘

Ann & I going from 18th to 29th.
Our hotel provides breakfast only.
Ramsey park.

Douglas has the most choice for eating.
We tend to stay local for most evening meals.
Race days pack up goodies from supermarket.

I will be there from 27th to the 30th.
Plenty to see on the Island if you have never been before with the regular attractions, laxey wheel etc etc
I have taken a few people to show areas of interest on the island that no longer exist as they have been demolished/nature has claimed them back etc etc.
I usually back it up with old photos on my phone and it's amazing what large structures no longer exist, but remnants of them are there if you know where to look.
Everyone that has viewed the various areas with me has enjoyed it.

there's a cafe with great food and good prices opposite the bus terminal in Douglas... (for some reason last year they shut early.. tea time ish, they used to be open til 8PM ) To describe where it is- as you come off the ferry terminal, turn left at the first roundabout, straight through the second roundabout and the cafe is about 75 yards on the right, opposite the bus stop. If you're on the bike, you can bump on the pavement to park.

Hi Luke

If you get a sunny evening, pop over to Peel and watch the sunset.

Plenty of places to eat there as well, plus a ruined castle to look round.

Enjoy.

I am over for the southern next week.

Good shout Mark. If the Red Arrows are there, that is also the best place to watch them, the bay is the perfect backdrop.

I am going from the 16th to 31st.
There is lots to see.
Calf of man. Cafe there and great scenery. Seals and sometimes dolphins and basking shark.
Port Erin nice bay and beach, great ice cream and a good pizza place.
Peel Castle, sailing and motorbike museum, cafes
Jurby Isle of Man Motor and Motorcycle museum plus some military and space things. Also race bikes being tested at the circuit sometimes
Laxey waterwheel
Murray’s motorcycle museum at Santon
Lots of site seeing , best to buy an Ordnance Survey map that shows all the ancient sites and ruins plus all the small roads to explore.
The TT paddock in Douglas
Etc etc

Also there is an RAF Typhoon doing a display on Aug 28th 7.30 pm Douglas bay. If it’s like the Red Arrows when they are there watch from Onchan Head to get close up.

Cheers Clive, that’s handy to know. We’re not far from Coningsby and often ride over to watch them. πŸ‘
