There are plenty of Triple projects by Club members underway this winter, no doubt 'uncle' Rod at CMM will want to drool over them next.. sorry, later this year.

I think the RD's were a great bike. but I like triples so much more. I wrote an article for the next mag, RD400 vs KH400. True story too so wait for it.

Your point about how they compare reminds me that my S3 went to close friend. He started with a KH250 then progressed! to a RD400. We used to thrash around a bit (flat out nearly every where) and when he heard my S3 was up for sale jumped at the chance. I can remember him laying on the tank trying to keep up on the RD as i just eased away sitting up right. Of course the noise the S3 made was always gonna give it the edge any way.

The S3 would have an RD on the straights but out of the corners the RD could pull away because it had more torque. I would say the RD went around corners better too.
So it took some riding for any jokey on an RD400 to hold the edge on the S3.
The RD was such fun to ride though, it would lift the front wheel in first and second just off the throttle.

No doubt on a track the Rd would be more suited. From my memory i am sure the old 350 yam was a quicker machine than 400? YR5 was a bike i wanted at 17 but got a GT250!! Could not afford the extra bit. Was not aware of Triples (Kawasaki) until friend got a S1C.

the trouble is the rd in the photo had tz springs etc in the front forks
(if you were in the know it was a good mod!)
tuned motor (far toooo many two ilegal mods to even go in to)
pipes tucked in!
etc etc etc!
to race you have to be in the know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good tip on the springs Malc. Guess they can still be sourced? I just have an RD400E that I intend to get around some time so I may take a look at the front end in that respect.
Time, Time, Time, Time, Time, Time, our worst enemy. Didn't the world go around slower when we were younger. Bikes seemed just as fast even though they were not? I guess it is all relative.
Anyway my mate had a YDS7 (Gold & Black) then I bought a YR5, (Gold & White) as a second bike to my RD400. I bought it as a pile of bits and put it together but never ever got it to go very well. It wanted money spending on it that I didn't have and the 400 was top dollar so it was a no brainer that the YR5 should go.
Shame because it was all there, even though a bit tatty but and I eventualy swapped it for an RD100 for the winter (that was in pretty good nick so a good deal at the time) but with hindsight I wish I had kept the YR5 and just left it in the shed.

HAD A YR5 5 YEARS AGO AND DECIDED IT NEEDED TOO MUCH WORK ON IT! 
SHOULD HAVE HIDDEN IT AWAY!

My mate on his S3A, and i had RD350, we thrashed those 2 bikes everywhere, some days it was him some days it was me, very well matched, the only mod was i had a yr5 airfilter, which probably didnt help as it wasnt re-jetted any, but very reliable, both bikes never failed, except for us kept falling off....
