A freind of mine spotted this in the free adds today so we popped round the sellers house and he bought it for £1000.My question is what's it worth? I know the pipes, seat, clocks, carbs and paint are not original and the engine has a missfire but hope to buy it off him in the morning but don't want to pay too much. Its UK registered Italian import with matching numbers. Thanks Clive. ImageImageImageImage

A grand looks great, I'll have one of those

I use my Z1 for shopping as the H2 tends to curdle the milk

Based on it being a good runner even with the non standard bits your mate should expect a 100% mark up if not a 200% mark up

The boys on the Z1 owners site would be interested

Pitty its got 4 pots and those mushroom metal bits in the top of the enginie :P

Those frame and engine nos are early 73, from February I think...although could be March, I'd need to check to be sure.

Despite the few bits that aren't correct, eg. clocks (from a Z1B) and carbs (either Z900 or Z1000) + exhausts, seat...also, the headlamp rim is US spec instead of Italian, the price of £1000 is an absolute bargain. I've seen bikes in that condition go for easily £4K +
By the way, from the photos, the paint looks to be original...not sure why you think otherwise.

Thanks Steve, Managed to buy it from my freind for £2000, given the bike a quick clean and it seems a lot nicer than I at first thought, hardly any corrosion anywhare.t. Plan to fit new pipes, seat and track down the correct carbs and clocks. Paint is not original and will get that done also.

I have a 1973 z1 and I paid more than £1000 for it  Your bike is nowhere near original but the engine and frame are 1973 and a matching original pair.
Z1 parts prices are becoming silly with US ebay the best place to source bits. New 4 into 4 pipes are available at around £1500 a set. Replica seats are plentiful and cheap. 28mm carbs are available on US ebay. The correct clocks are very hard to find and if you want a contact for some then send me a PM. Good luck with the bike and if you need any info or advice then check out the forum on the Z1 owners club website. You dont even need to be in the club to join the forum.
