H2-C fouled plugs

Have taken the airbox apart today and found the filter has disintergrated due to age - Thanks to Turkish and his suggestion, I owe you a pint for that.
When riding home the bike did not miss a beat, and the plugs are a little dark but not the black as seen during the ride out.
Me thinks it could be a moisture problem in the wiring or the coils. So will be looking for a good replacement for the 35 year old coils.
Any ideas ??
Was also thinking of shrink wrapping the wire connectors to the coils to keep the moisture out.
Any thoughts on doing this good or bad ??
Lastly will also drop the carb needles one notch as suggested by the H2 god himself (RB). Will post more once that has been tried.
