The final step in getting my '73 H1D registered involved taking it to VOSA at Darlington this afternoon to have it 'inspected'. A task that took the lady less than 2 minutes to check the frame number, engine number and ask me the mileage.

She then said " The colour is black", to which I replied, no it's green, pointing to the tank. No she said, it's black pointing to the frame. "You can change the petrol tank to any colour you want" so it's black. "I've been told to put down the colour of the frames".

It was pouring down with rain and I just couldn't be bothered to argue.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? or is it just a North-East thing? Have to wait for the V5 then send it back to have the colour changed.

so the colour of a mark 1 cortina is rust then if you go by the chassis

What a load of shite look in any new bike V5 and it will list the colour from bodywork................I think ...ain't bought a new bike since 77...... BLACK gs 750!!!

The DVLA are all wankers put here to piss us off at every opportunity and make life as awkward as possible.

The V5 arrived and there has been a compromise - its down as green / black. At least it's registered and legal. Roll on spring.
