Hey, which KDX is that? I raced KDX200, 250 and 420 back in the 80's (not at the same time!!) but I dont recognise that one!

well spotted bbb.. its actually a 200cc 1988 C3, BUT it has a KTM PDS, shock & swing arm with 2 stage adjustment
I have it cos they are great fun, but I guess you already know that

Aye bbb" i went to most of the Moto-x in early 1980"s, with Willy Simpson. him on Husquvarna, was all over England , hawkston, Weston beach race, etc, Simpson won the first beach race 1982,
Was you kickin around then , Thorpe was top kawasaki guy then
Noyce on Honda.

Hey Blackhat!
For the whole of the 80's I was competing regularly in the enduro world, starting with a PE400 moving on to KDX420, 200, 250, in that order, then moving up to Husqvarna WR400's and eventualy the WR420 Auto, that was a stunning bike, 420 twist and rip, it was cheating really, so easy to ride, but, and it's a big "but",
I raced it 4 times, and it broke down 4 times!!!, me an my mate got one each from Pro Circuit (Steve and Charlie, remember them? ) His only broke down 2 outa 4 and when it went well he won on it!
I worked at Kawasaki motorcross dealer during the early 80's so I was around the motorcross scene too!
Also my previous life as a G.P. mechanic seemed to qualify me to go to four I.S.D.E. as team mechanic/outrider, Wales, Spain, France and Germany. Happy days!

What was the issue with the husky"s. our 420"s were a pig to start [ left kicker] Did you kno husky branded the 430 as a 440"
its was a arms race at that time , eventualy peaking at 500cc,
Maico"s 490 , honda 450, heres my CR430 husky from 2 years ago ,
Did the Classic MX.

The issue with the auto's was overheating, it was a fairly simple 3 speed auto based around centrifugal clutches, but the constant slipping of the clutches caused massive overheating, (at slow speeds)' in the 'box, which then caused the springs to fail! Steve and Charlie gave us bigger rads off the 510 4 stroke and we thought about fans, but eventually they just gave us manual boxes for them, problem solved. Shame though 'cos they really were good, but I remember only making the first few hundred yards out of the start at the CWM OWEN enduro 'cos it was up a big hill! Failure in front of a few hundred spectators, really embarrassing! Especially as Ian ( my buddy) won the damn event on an identical machine!!!!!
Still, as I said, happy days, those Swedish built Husky's were good!
