Perhaps the shop dressed it up with a current paint set to shift some older stock? After all, they were starting to sit around in showrooms in the later part of the model life. Actually, they sat around showrooms at the start too (the '72's), but that was down more to their extraordinarily high price.

Even Kawasaki themselves would raid the parts bins at the ends of some models.

like Hal says,
the dealer probably had it in stock and with sales slowing down of the triples.
when the new colour came out swapped the body set over

So many unknowns - they may have had a B4 insurance repair in at the time. Spare parts were cripplingly expensive in the day, so they could have been profitably sold on.

wonder if theres anymore hanging around out there they cant shift???

on reflection the b4s paint scheme is not that brilliant is it,
did it make anyone back in the day actually want one ?,
but the b5 colour scheme is much more striking,
are you sure the bike is original paint, have you got a picture so we can scrutinise it, perhaps the person you got the bike off put that set on it because they liked it better?,
