Don't forget base gasket

After a few months of inactivity the H2 rebuild is into the last furlong. New piston rings arrived from Reproduction Decals yesterday so this afternoon I got started on fitting the top end.

Start with the middle barrel. New rings carefully installed, piston onto conrod - all going well so far. Plenty of lubrication around the bottom of the barrel and after a bit of drama it slid nicely onto the piston. Going really well. Started to remove the packing from around the conrod and ---- no base gasket, it's still sat on the bench. Count to 10, go for a walk and start again.

That sucks! I always coat the base gaskets with anti-seize so no scraping later. It's kind of stinky and messy, so I don't forget....... :?

Thank you for those kind words of support. Clot? I'll have to look that up.

Anyway, all 3 barrels now on, and with 3 base gaskets in place. And each piston has 2 new rings on as well.

Just need a lift to get it from the utility room out to the garage now and all being well the engine goes back into the frame tomorrow.

I feel a bit like England approaching the Grand Slam - almost there.
