I mean, buys a new bike, runs it in, stores it for nigh on 40 years and then sells it?

Perhaps they just liked looking at it.

So that's not like having a £6K reserve then .....

I heard the story behind it. Two brothers bought identical bikes from new but hardly rode them. One sold his (this one) to DK but the other brother has kept his bike even though he doesn't ride it. So there's another out there exactly like this one.

the speedo needle is faded, which means that is has sat in the sun for some considerable time, maybe the sun shone through a window?

Bought mine 40 years ago, rode it, dropped it, painted it ,abused it, then parked it and forgot about it for 30 years. Did I keep it as an asset, no chance never gave it a thought and still don`t cause it ain`t for sale. Well I won`t be selling it.

Can`t be worth that much ? It`s not a "Genuine UK bike"

Yes 'cos the "genuine UK" bikes were made in Warwickshire by Japanese faries out of magic metal mined from the Derbyshire Kawasaki mine.
