80 MPH, never go so slow

At 70 I can make it between fuel stops, 80+ I going to have to re-plan.

Surely it should be outside lane for bikes only, any speed.

Gotta agree there Graham I drive a lot around M25 Essex Herts North London area and the standard of driving ......in the main by people in up market Beemers Mercs Audis and the school bus ....oh sorry I meant Ranxx Rovxxxx man I hate those things is shite. Its like I'm in a safe car so I can use my phone apply make up comb hair etc etc thing bubble.....really feel like rammin em in the Trannie OK grumpie gripe over

anything that lifts the big brother nanny state boot off the publics neck one little bit gets applause from me. 70 was introduced in the 70s to save fuel and never recinded. as we suspected. Cars, fuel efficiencies, road safety has inproved dramatically since then. i dont think it will make so much difference in the SE where speeds are governed more by flow dyanmics...volume of traffic, stop start delays etc. in fact it may even slow things down and increase bunching...who knows....but to me the point is it takes resrictions away, and after the last 30 years i for one applaud it.

And for distance work it will reduce trip time...yay. Although i dont see any change in lorry speeds discussed so in terms of business it is irrelevent.

I for one applaud it & we might as well enjoy it because I can see a day coming when the Euro beaureacrats with little else to do with their grossly overpaid time will turn their beady little eyes to a Euro wide speed limit.

The motivation behind the law change appears to be that the public routinely ignore the 70 limit anyway (and rightly so) as it was set in 1965 when Ford Anglia's and the like could just about reach it.

Flaunting of the 70 limit is so widespread as to make it nigh on impossible to enforce, so to raise it to 80 is a clever political move by the government that gives the impression that they tell us what to do, and we are once again a nation of law abiding citizens.

There are lots of existing laws that are simply ignored because they are silly or outdated, the 70mph limit became one. Did you know for example that it is still illegal for a woman to push a baby in a pram on the pavement? The law is still there but never enforced. I became interested in British law a couple of years back after getting a rum deal from it, the things you learn are a real eye opener.

The irony is that in all my 34 years of driving this last year has been the only time I have ever kept my speed down to 70, and the reason behind the change is the cost of petrol not the threat of punishment.

It's not that BMW/Merc drivers drive aggressively, it's just that the guys who cannot afford to drive 'em do not realise that the roads do in fact belong to us flash barstards that can, and so we are allowed to do just as we please on them and the laws that apply to lesser cars - do not apply to Teutonic objets d'art , I am sure it says so in the BMW handbook .................. (or I may just have dreamed it)

Once you understand that fact - it all makes perfect sense
