On COMPLETELY STANDARD H2 AND H2C, what do YOU have YOUR needle clip setting on, and why?
Thanks, AL.

It should be on whichever clip the bike is happiest with.

try it on top first AL then on bottom that should give you a indication of which way to go

Ok lads, thanks....what i'm gettin at is this-
would altering the needle settin affect -
1/- the low speed/ off, just on the throttle surgin probs
(yes i know 'they all do it') and
2/- after you've had a high speed blast, then come to a stop, then set off again, the bike feels like its runnin out of petrol , until it 'settles' down and runs normal again.
I re set the carbs to see off problem 1, and also altered the needle clip settin which was originally on the bottom (5) settin to the middle settin (3). This then gave me problem 2 and also i have now to 'rev' the bike a bit more to set off the line as it appears to have gone flat feelin low down but then flies from 3000 revs on.(goin back to the 70's i remember h2's doin this on basically 'brand new carbs/unaltered settins' from new)
SO... has alterin the needle settins caused this... or is it just me

check your throttle cable is perfect, if it has a break or a kink between the end that goes into the carb top and the black outer sheathing then you will find the bike will take time to settle down to idle
as Blackhat said you can dial the surging out
also check for an air leak
for an understanding on what part of the carb does what here is a good guide

I think they're set on the middle groove out of the factory.
I improved 'fluffy' running on part throttle (which felt too rich) by dropping the needles one position (two from the top) and it cleaned it up nicely.

Anyone else have this problem ?

My thanks to Scouse for putting the "carb theory" link in. Even a dumb clut like me can now understand how the blasted things work.

Check float heights & fuel flow through fuel tap.

Al, if it's the H2c that is 'gagging' and unresponsive after running hard-give your oil pump setting a check over.
Also make sure the oil pump cable is not sticking leaving the pump cable quadrant stuck-either way it could be that too much oil is feeding to the float bowls at low revs-giving poor pick-up for a while.
Not too sure about the H2 though !
Sounds like you need to check air filter clean, fuel heights, jets are clear etc.
