Gents

Just spend 4 hours getting one barrel off. The studs are, what's the technical term, "F***ed" or a touch corroded.

Can anyone point me at a supplier of nice new ones, or do I have to get the lathe out!!

You think yours are knackered? I've been trying get my bloody barrels off for two weeks of soaking in a can of WD 40 / heating with propane and everything from delicate tapping with hammer and wooden blocks to hitting the bloody things with lump hammer and cold chisel ( not advised)

Patrick Bras in France was doing lots of repop h1 and 2 parts but his ebay shop is closed till the 19th. Can't remember if he was doing barrel studs tho

try 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF ...

oh yes,been there done that on a few motors,i ended up pilot down through the stud,then follow on with 10mm down to approx 25mm of stud,so when the barrel did pop,stud extractor to remove the last bit.be aware,the replica stud must be perfect in terms of length and thread length,1mm out on thread or length will give a false torque as if to short,all that is happening is you are torquing the bolt on the thread and the heads will blow,double washer sorts it,i had bolts made,they were 1mm short on the thread :smt023

To get mine off I tap'd each of the 4 barrel stud bores with a 16mm fine tap and drilled and tapped 4x 16mm fine bolts to take a smaller, longer 12mm bolt inside to make a puller. If you need to pull them all the way you need to turn the first 15mm of the 12mm bolts to 10mm to fit down the lower barrel stud bore.

You'll need someone with a lathe to knock the bits up!!

Still took a hell of effort to get them off.

I'm in the middle of screwcutting a new set of studs from stainless bolts myself.

Takes a while in my old lathe, but its making a nice job.

Spray Chain wax makes a great screwcutting oil
