I,ve just been nabbed speeding and i need to have a winge!! whist i am not condoning speeding i thought mobile speed cameras were supposed to be sited at accident black spots etc not where the speed limit changes from 40mph to 30 mph on the brow of a hill on a mile long straight road it,s entrapment!!! to make matters worse i was on my way to pirelli in carlisle to help the police downoad cctv footage of a suspicious death on site it,s no wonder our wonderful officers of the law get a rough ride

Some of 'em might be appropriately sited but from what I can see a lot of them are put just where they think they'll catch people. They're so indiscriminate too. I was driving along the other day, open road, no pedestrians, no parked cars, no gate ways, broad daylight etc. Was travelling at a perfectly safe speed for the conditions - saw a speed camera and looked at speedo to confirm that I was doing 36 in a 30, hit the brakes and seem to have got away with it. Reckon there was more danger in me looking at speedo and hitting brakes than carrying on at 36. Fact is that a "safe speed" is a continuous variable along the road given the conditions, vehicle etc. rather than a blanket limit. A good driver can moderate speed responsibly but still get clobbered.

But some people drive like twats in dangerous places so they have to do something I suppose.

If they wanted to improve safety on the roads, they`d concentrate on overall driving standards.

But that means more Traffic Cops out there, doing the right thing. Pulling up people who jump red lights, don`t use their indicators , don`t consider other traffic etc etc. Which means more manpower. Too costly. Our Politicians would rather spend it on their expenses, or boosting Company profits ( that they are involved in......) Than risk more Police, more pensions costs etc

Look at the total cock-up they`ve made forever with Bikes. Since the beginning they`ve decided that "speed" is the problem. 16 yr olds killing themselves on bikes. Must be going too fast. Never look at ALL the statistics. Farr too tricky. !!!

Speeding apparently is the main cause of 3% of R.T.A.`s.

Inappropriate use of speed is something completely different. Check out the number of Girls who hoor past you on the Motorway doing 80mph in rainy conditions with no idea of a safe stopping distance.


Oh, and while I`m at it ; How coe Silver cars seem to be exempt from putting their lights on in the wet ???? Muppets . All of them !!!

I think the safety only bullshit was exposed for what it is when they moved the running of the speed traps from police to local Government. Then they became revenue generators pure and simple. For some reason they keep bursting into flame, snapping off at the base or ejaculating builders foam round here...who a thunk it

Driving skills are getting worse, courtesty is a thing of the past roads are getting busier and cars are getting faster for younger inexperienced drivers

That's what confuses my pupils the most, ignorant "I'm alright jack" motorists that can't be bothered to let others know their intentions, it always causes learners to hesitate as they havnt got a clue what the other drivers are doing!

Got nicked for speeding 3 weeks ago, just waiting to go on the "training course", Because, apparently I need it . . . . . I only have close on TWO MILLION incident free miles under my belt to date . . . wonder what i will learn

How does that work Wolfie, I drive a passat, big car! but she is nearly 16 yrs old. I also do 46,000 miles a year to work + the colour is silver.

My driving is great, I sit in the middle lane doing no more than 63mph, side lights on no matter what the weather. Indicators are for going off the motorway only. Texting wife to get dinner on about 45min from home. Ohh plus the flat cap and leather gloves as I am saving fuel by not having the aircon on. Can't see out the windows thou.

just because you do something a long time dos not mean you have been doing it right. That sounds like my father in law, he would say never been in an accident but seen plenty lol

I second this. The two chaps who did my speed awareness course where down to earth and not regulations bashers. It was an interesting afternoon filled with good information but also some humor and annecdotes. My driving style has changed for the better. The speeding awareness course I was on recently was the same as Gotz and yes I have learnt from it and HAVE been more aware about my speeding!
Having clocked up some 51 points since the age of 16, and most for speeding I needed to learn :smt023.
Will I be caught again??????
More than likely as this is the way the system of cameras is set up

In a lot of areas its simply a tax revenue collector.
It only takes a moments lapse in concentration for you to be caught in the "modern" world.
Hopefully I wont be doing 125Mph like 10ish years ago

NO, within a few months of getting my license back I had been caught speeding and banned again!
All on modern bikes.
The speeding awareness course has definitely made me think or is it just Im getting older and wiser

Had a provisional since the age of 17 and a full licence gained a couple of years after that - and it's been clean all the way to present date. :smt023
I can multitask (it's a women thing I gather, changing cd's etc.)... and I don't spend my entire journey moaning on about those that don't indicate, etc. etc. etc.

The only drawback is I now have Harv insured on my policies
