This is the sort of thing pushing the prices up

My mate AL brought a better one than this , not seized and with a new foam and seat cover to the Blackpool rally last year and didnt get any interest at £750

Looked at your link & put it in my watch list, thought it could make a nice special ... No chance of that at that price I'd also want the hard to find seat base for that kind of money......

From the photos that S2 has a lot of really good condition parts on it. It`s well worth £750. ( But then, only if you are capable of restoring parts, not just bolting new bits on. )

What`s pushing prices up is the ludricous s.p`s that some of you pay for n.o.s parts , and when folk see a Show bike sold for crazy money, and then hike their own bike sale price up .

`Course it`s not a "genuine UK " bike so sniff sniff

Yes I've got to agree with Neil and Kaz on this and I'm sure the S2 will make a lot more than its current bid.

I think one of the problems is that there are a lot of people out there who would love an H2 but have been pushed out of the market by the price of them, not just a good quality on the road bike but the cost of buying a project. Even if you bought a project H2 the cost of parts has gone crazy over the past few years.

I think those people see an S2 or similar as an alternative way of owning a triple and if as Neil says, you can do a lot of the restoration work yourself it isn't going to cost crazy money to get it back on the road.

Be interesting to see what it finally makes and if anyone on here buys it.

I agree with Neil. It`s the old adage when you are buying you want it for nothing BUT when you are selling you want the earth.

Was driving about today thinking about it a little. That thing needs Clocks and a seat. £50 ea and £200 for seat. Maybe another tank @ >£100. A complete ready for restoration S2 is what approx £1500 ?? I think so. So there`s room in that auction yet !

And following on from Eric`s H2 thoughts. Well yes. Some folk will go for it for that reason. But there are some folk who actually DO want the 250 . Me, I love `em !!! ( Only got 12 at mo. )

And on that line of substitute bikes. I`ve restored and sold 4 in last year for folk who phoned me wanting a white S1. Not realising they could have the same bike in red with another 20 hp !!

Substitute " some folk want 350`s " I typed 250. ( Cue heart attacks from folk thinking I have 12 `72 S1`s !! )

maybe i am wrong here but i think you will struggle to buy the missing parts for the prices quoted,if from usa postage the chancellors and the post office cut will add a lot to price, as regards doing the work yourself i dont have a chroming plant in my shed so that's going to cost best part of £1500 a paint job by one of the guru's to half a nano shade of original £500 crank of simon £375 rebore and pistons £500 tyres chain and sprockets gaskets clutch plates and whatever other horrors you find i dont know what these bikes fetch but i wouldn't like to bet it will cost you more than it's worth i'm ready to be shot down in flames

I don't think you're wrong Chris, this will need a shed-load of cash as well as skill and hard work to restore it.
If I was doing a 350 I would be looking to pay more than this for the best donor bike that you can afford, but however you do it a very nice S2 is going to cost you between £3500 and £4000 to do and a Euro model even more.

was thinking of you when i wrote this i bet your wash and brush up of your reasonably tidy s2a cost a few bob rick's got a uk s2 on his site which looks reasonable[on the photo's which i know can be flattering] for reasonable money and it looks complete

That bike on Rick's site is a very good starting point for a top class Euro S2 restoration, but even then there is a lot of work and money to go into it

The problem is the same old one we have always had that it costs the same to rechrome rebore etc a 350 as it does a 750, but the 350 finished is only worth 60% of the 750's finished value

In fact some of the 350 items like pistons and fork stanchions actually cost more than those for a 750

I think a more relevant value is that between the Rear Mudguard, Headlamp Brackets, Foot Rests, Handlebars and Seat, there is arguably between £7 and 800 of value alone

OK they are £7-£800. So what is an engine, carbs ,frame, wheels, brake plate, forks/yokes, silencers, suspension units etc worth

Back in December a US import S2 that could be described as a good starting point for a very nice bike sold on EBay for £2,300. It looked to be substantially all there but clearly needed work.

Just wondered what you (Malcolm) mean by RB's being reasonable money? I looked on his site and there's no price stated. Is it a secret?
