That's a cracking price. Problem is....it doesn't smell as good as Silkolene Comp 2 Race. Sniff sniff, hmmm!

Silkolene, hope you don't use it all the time?
just in case your wondering, some members have had problems with rings gumming up in pistons using Silkolene

I noticed that with silkolene. Had a suspect little end bearing off with barrel and was surprised how the the rings had gummed uP. i now use EXOL oil £31 5 litres no problems

Thanks for the tip. Looks like I'll just be using Silkolene in the strimmer for my sniffing fix then! That, along with Castrol R in the mower = horticultural heaven!!

Just a thought....mixing different brands of 2-stroke oil in the tank won't cause problems will it? (All being fully synthetic)

Hi, being a recent convert to the world of kawasaki triples, I contacted Castrol to ascertain what blend of their 2 stroke oil would work best as I'd read that fully synthetic oils contain 'esters' that do not burn efficiently in air cooled low rpm engines.
Initially my call went to an Indian Call Centre, however once they realised that Kawasaki 2 stroke triples weren't listed on their recommended oils list they assured me that my question would be answered by a Technician from the UK plant.
Sure enough I received a call back within 10 minutes from a very enthusiastic guy who claimed to own a couple of aircooled motocrossers, and he confirmed that the best oil to use would be their branded Power1 Scooter oil in the Gold coloured bottle as it is a high grade semi-synthetic which will burn correctly with out gumming up the rings etc. An alternative would be the 2T Actevo Mineral oil(in the Silver coloured bottle which would also do the job and be a bit cheaper. Fully Synthetics 2 stroke oils are designed for high reving strokers such as Honda NSR 250s and Yamaha TZR 250s etc that regularly rev to 10-12k rpm and were not designed to work in 1970's type engines which don't get hot enough in normal use to burn the esters.
Following a recent engine re-bore on my H2, I covered the first 250 miles using 2T Actevo, before draining the oil tank and using the Power 1 Scooter oil which seems to burn a bit cleaner.
I hope this info helps if you are not sure what type of oil to use.

Many thanks for your helpful reply Mart.
I wonder why scooter oil needs to be different from bike oil? This is a puzzling and slightly worrying minefield really - and I guess the best advice we could have would come from triple owners who have used a particular make of oil long-term, who can tell us their experiences....good or bad.
Hmmm!

Hi Candiblu, I forgot to add that the Castrol Oil Technician said that Castrol Power I was originally designed for Motorcycles and that the name had been changed to 'Scooter 2T' as 2 stroke road bikes are no longer sold by the big four. 2 stroke scooters are still available from some manufactures, although they are also being fazed out/replaced by 4 strokes! The Key advantage of this particular semi synthetic blend is that (according to Castrol's technical data) it can extend the life of a 2 stroke exhaust system by leaving less carbon deposits.
Perhaps Castrol should sell a 'Classic 2T 'Bike Blend specifying its suitability for air cooled 1970's strokers and save us all the hassle and questions!

One thing that really surprised me when i took the heads off my h1a was how clean the top of the pistons were I reckon each piston had only 10%to 20% of the crown covered in carbon deposits that was after about 5k miles and that is using exol semi synthetic oil
