Engine is a furry mess




Seat base is rusty but looks saveable, i was going to get Tony Archer to re-cover it.


Idiot light cover is in the box of bits.


Thread on rev counter cable mounting has snapped off.


Laquer has peeled on the tank, i would like to save the paint if i can, tank is in good nick inside with minimal rust and no gunge.






Lots of buggeration and expense ahead.

It looks like a bargain to me! (was watching it on ebay) and it will be worth it.

No it was originally shite brown, his girlfriend had it painted metalflake green as a present back in the '70s.

I really do want to try to save the paint but i don't know where to start with it.

I really need to find out about the chrome work, if it can be saved or not, there's a fair bit of pitting.

Rather you than me mate, what's the chance of that looks like it spent the last 20 years in a pond yet it has a very rare rear back mud gaurd :smt023

I'm intrigued as to why some of these later bike have the mudguard????

Re the rear mudguard. I think that the U.K models had the long rear guard and the U.S model didn't have one at all. Similar story with Z900. U.S model has shorter one than U.K model.

don't think US later H1 had rearmudguard after the plastic one under the seat.

Deffo new crank Gary, i will be in touch shortly. Porting advice would also be welcome, nowt hugely radical, more gas flow improvement :smt023

The bike is an official UK bike, so the rear mudguard is standard fitment, i prefer these bikes without so it will come off. It's not going to be standard anyway, i keep eyeing up the ZXR400 front end i have lying about. In fact i have a rolling chassis. Hybrid ZXR/KH maybe?

bit grim that one but can be restored locally to you at triples workshop give neil the don or me a bell :smt023

As much as possible, correct. No point and havin a dog and barkin' yersen, eh.

I had an early finish today so i thought i'd start on the strip down.

The only wiring horrors seem to be a bodged in Cibie headlight soldered by a 5 year old.


God knows how old the battery is, but it was bone dry.


Fuse box and Generator seem in good nick. Not much else is.



So far, missing parts discovered are one exhaust stud, all the exhaust collars, centre stand, pipes one indicator lens.

By the way, how the hell do you remove the choke cables from the carbs?
