Just seen tucked away in the budget bumph, that the cut off date for vehicle excise duty has been moved forward a year to anything registered before 1/1/74

It comes into force from April 2014, good news for all us H2A etc. jockey's

First thing I looked for in Budget !! Expected it to be backed up by increase in road tax. But no , they are held at current levels.

More, or as importantly : SORN will be a one off declaration from next year. About time , the stupid stupid system of having to tell those chunts every year that you still haven`t put your vehicle back on the road......DUH. ( Seems the Govt noticed the cost of sending all those annual sorn letters out was more than the cost of fining forgetful people of not re-declaring it. Even more stupid , if it was a Historic "free"tax vehicle too. Double-chunts )

I should imagine it`ll include a few H2B`s and H1-D/E`s as well then . As a lot of H2-a`s being mfd in 72 qualified previously.

just checked the V5C for the H1e and it just says manufactured 1974 so I guess I'm not going to qualify this time around.

Incidentally Ricks dating certificate says manufactured April 1974 but this info doesnt make it to the V5C

Buggered if I know The Historic Tax was introduced by the Conservatives but stopped when labour got in a few years back, it was always part of their manifesto during every campaign . . . I am gobsmacked that they are carrying it off . . .

Simple. I expect there's a fair percentage of the old boys club that retire to their country residences and have a collection of nice old motors stoshed away. The poor sausages can't afford the road tax so they pass a bill that means they don't have to. You watch - it'll be no duty on vintage wines, caviar and swan in aspic next. The man in the street gets a penny off a pint though so it's all fair.

Gets my vote, I'm a bit partial to Swan...

It was Kenneth Clarke as Minister of Transport that intor`d the Historic vehicle class etc. He owned a Morris Minor, so was in touch with all that stuff. And originally it was a rolling qualifictation.

Labour got in , and stopped that rolling qualification. And the dVLA turned into a profit centre. Heavying in on private plates , and ramping up the registration fees with complete disregard to any idea of fairness.
When I started registering imported bikes it cost nothing. Then it was £20 , then £38 and now £55. And inflation has been what ? 1, 2 3, or 5% .( Their figures, not reality ! )

So , looks like a Tory minister has come in ,looked at the complete daylight robbery going on, and started to put a stop to it . In a recession, when they need all the money they can get. Good luck to them.
They deserve to get the caviar .

I went to Wimbledon DVLA this afternoon to register a 1973 H1d and they did not know anything about the historic tax cut off date moving in the budget. They made a phone call, still no luck so I had to tax it and pay.
They said it must be something that was going to happen in the future.
I had queued up for almost 2 hours and had lost the will to argue.

So if you are going to register a bike take enough money!!

So my H1D is a 1973 bike, but because it was imported from Italy in 1983 the log book says date of registration as 1983.
How do I get the log book changed, anyone know?

if not it should be tax free, get a dating cert from RB and get yer money back

Just remember this change takes effect from April 2014.

I know a few H1D's declared manufactured in 72 that are tax free
