Bike transport

OK chaps, need some advice. Next year i will probably be getting rid of my tow car so will need a replacement. I will have another car but wont be putting a tow bar on. At a few rallies i have seen people with a bike in the back of a people type carrier with the rear seats removed. I need something that i can use localy so i dont bang up loads of miles on my replacement car and something that can get my 400 in the back. If I wanted 2 bikes at a rally i could drag the 666 on the trailer. Not looking to spend a fortune. Your ideas please gentlemen.

Wolfie is dead right there Rog.....Big Paul has a similar vehicle (with disabled ramp) and it works perfectly, his is a VW Caddy and I'm sure it would still be able to safely pull another bike on a trailer ....

Perfect for the job ....in fact you could argue that one vehicle would be enough to meet your requirements mate

If you are only planning on using it to move your bikes around, would it be 6 times a year or so ?

Renting a Transit for the weekend would probably be a lot cheaper than the depreciation on anything you buy over the year ?

Neil that is a good point.
also you will not fit a tow bar to a wheel chair adapted veicle as the rear is cut away to allow ramp to fold down.

,my caddy is great for 1 bike 2 is a no no but can take 3 people in comfort.

Why not get a small van and use for everyday transport. Vans are not what they used to be, they are just as comfortable as a car and most of them have plenty bells and whistles. I'm on my 3rd Fiat/Pegeout Scudo/Expert 1.6 diesel 90hp with no problems whatsoever. Fuel economy is fantastic although you won't break any land speed records!! I get 2 bikes in no problem and it also doubles up as accommodation at rallies.

Ramp up. I ended up taking the ramp off as it was touching the rear number plate, the floor is so low it isn't really an issue.

We solved the number plate issue ded easy Tony.. the bike goes in backerds.

The winch then holds the back end down secure and the rear straps compress the forks..

A top point Neil and one that is in my consideration list. I would probably also use it as a local runabout so i dont put miles on a nice car.

The best thing about a van is they only have 2 1/2 seats so you don't end up being the local taxi

Not if you take the rear seats out. The big advantage of the Tepee is it is essentially a Peugeot Expert van with windows but classed/taxed as a car, so no VAT when buying from a dealer.

Less of a problem for this years rally . I doubt w`ll be getting a lift to the Indian restaraunt this time round
