Import Charge & VAT?

I have been offered an unrestored H1 that came in from the states quite a while ago ,the guy cant find the import papers! what would I be liable for when coming to register?

20% vat , and maybe. Another 6% import duty. If you 'fess up.

( Don't think an individual. Can try for the Historic vehicle rate at 5% ? )

If,you had a plausible paper trail a.k.a. A sales receipt , proving it came in decades ago, they may just waive the charge , but don't bet on it.

Either way , you'll need to apply to HMRC to get a NOVA ( Dutympaid ). Number , before the DVLA will ever consider registering it.

Yeah !! Barstewards. You probably should consider buying a Triple from a reputable Importer , like , err, Rick................

And on THAT note, anyone that is buying an Import make 100% sure that the NOVA number matches the frame number EXACTLY
- I am nearly 4 Months into trying to change some NOVA numbers for customers as the numbers on the original U.S. titles were not 100% accurate - I really can't stress enough how important the NOVA number is

They WILL all have nova numbers !! ( And as you and I know, that may be bleedin weeks after the bikes have landed !! )

However, I seem to have fared far better in altering nova VIN details than you. Did a couple 2 weeks ago , and got them fixed in 4 days !! ( The HMRC messaging system was down, so the PTU took it upon themselves to bypass it , and e-mail them directly to me. Fandabidozeee !! )

Not loking forward to trying to submit that psreadsheet this time though. Unless they`ve improved the info on errors ?

I'm just about to send my V55/5 with all the other stuff to DVLA for the S3A, and having read your comment I noticed that the MOT and proof of age certificate have a hyphen between the S3F and the number, but the hyphen is missing from the NOVA document and the receipt of sale. Am I likely to have a problem with that, do you think?

The NOVA system is totally retarded, there is no facility for you to add a full stop, space, asterisk, hash or hyphen (which a GREAT many motorcycles have in the VIN number) - when entering a frame number onto the NOVA system - submit and see what they say

you never know with the DVLA. Just depends which. Monkey processes your form.

Theremis also the actual fact that there is no hyphen on the frame number on the bike. So the MOT man shouldn't have added one, and what muppet wrote the dating letter with an added hyphen too ??

MMM. I just typed that and then realised. That you my take that literally , rather than a too clever lie to line up the punch line of winding Rick up ...!!
so wipe that . both the MOT man and Rick. We're right. As the frame DOES have a hyphe mark on the number. It's only the. HMRC system that will not let you enter one on their system. So we would hope that the DVLA monkey is not too new in the job to not know this. Send it in , as is.

I just keep digging this whole bigger for,myself, don't I ??!! for double surety , you,could take a picture of the frame number from the bike , and add it with your application. That'll back up what the MOt man and the dating letter confirm.

Thanks Neil, good idea to send in a photograph of the frame number, showing the hyphen. I notice though, the engine number doesn't have one, just a space, even though on mine the engine and frame numbers are the same (apart from the 'E' and 'F', obviously).

I`ve only had one Triple that had matching engine and Frame numbers. And that was an S3 also. They all seem to be a lot closer than any other of the Triples.

As far as engine numbers go re DVLA, it`s not crucial. The bikes Identity is by it`s VIN/Frame number. If you left the enginenumber box empty on the form , your V5 would come back processed, with just a " Not stated" on it. It`s only th Collecters and Kawasaki UK who get hung up about "matching" numbers, for the originality. DVLA are only concerned with a valid Identity as regards any potential fraud/theft etc.

I suspect that the "Muppet" may be the person that has spent each and every day for the last 40 Years dealing with Kawasaki Triples, It could be the same person that is widely acknowledged as the Worlds Leading Authority on them, Maybe it is the guy that Kawasaki Motors turn to when they need advice, It could be someone that started THIS very Kawasaki Triples Club some 35 Years ago, Hey, maybe it is someone that has enough knowledge to Impress the DVLA and is in a position to accurately date Kawasaki Triples . . even down to the correct spacing and punctuation ? . . . . . I'm pretty certain however, that it isn't someone that puts foot firmly in mouth with many posts . .

Can anyone tell me how you register an imported bike if you don't have any paperwork at all? I'm sure you at least need the import date and customs declaration details.

how do you get a bike registered that was a British bike but no paperwork ??? 2 years ago there was no issue so why all of a sudden do you need a nova for a british bike ??????
