Well looks like I managed torun a100 mile at 5000 revs with an oil lock in the 2 stroke tank.
Topped up the tank on thursday. Ran down to london on friday and engine was not sounding very happy. Stopped at services and checkd oil tank, still full. Alarm bells started so bought 1 litr of oil and gave a shot into the tank. Carried on down to the rally.
When I got there checked the oil tank again, now the oil was lower.
Somehow I mamaged to cause a vacumn in the tank so no oil could get through.
Got recovered back home on saturday came to work sunday.

Will need to strip it all down over the winter and find out exactly what I have destroyed.

Could a possible blockage on the oil tank
Cap/breather cause that ?

It's usually the filter at the bottom of the tank that clogs Nigel, but the breather tube should be checked.

There was a technical post some tima back that suggested it is additives and other modern crap that settles out of the oil rather than crap getting in there so stopping it happening is not an easy option through winter when the oil doesn't get shaken up for months on end.

Hope it's not so bad, still a bummer tho... The ends are probably the worst aflicted and they sound awful when they're fookt.. Ask me how I know..[Video].

I check that filter gauze very often when the tank gets low nowadays.

I got caught out at a rally a few Years ago, oil tank window full, oil tank empty! I suspect mixing oils turned to a gel that gelled up the window . . . it could also do the same to the filter

that sucks nigel its happened to me before aswell but mine was gloop in the oil filter ,no fault of my own I hasten to add

Will not know much more until I get home and strip down the engine.

Will post what I find.

Just do not understand the 2 stroke oil tank situation at the moment.
My only thought is that the overflow tube was full with oil when I installed the cap, then this somehow created a vacumn not allowing oil to flow into the pump.

But them why would it clear by itself and then use as normal for the last 60 miles.
Need to spend time and find out why.
I wish I knew now what I will now in 6 months. Lol

With enough draw from the pump a small amount of gloop might just suck through the gauze eventually, I daresay that the pump would have no problem then mashing it back into oil and sending it out.

But get it all opened up and have a look mate, we're all still guessing for you.

It's a pic of an S3 I restored 3 or 4 years ago that had been standing since the mid eighties so the oil was ancient but it shows the principle of what happens.
Hope you get this sorted without too much expense

When you got the plug out the small bits of what looked like metal in the spark plug and the grey ooze didn't look too good...
